I think the DBTT tour gets more 'bad press' here than any other mainly due to the fact that it was Liam's weakest vocally and that the tour setlists were becoming pretty static. It's never been a favourite gig era unlike BHN or HC.
But this week I've been in the mood to listen to my DBTT gigs again and I've found it a lot more positive than I would have expected. Not that I didn't like the gigs. I saw Oasis for the first (Toronto in June) and second (Vancouver in Sept) time during this tour.
Yes, the vocals are the weakest for Liam but barring the 2006 gigs, not as bad as its made out. And The set, although static, was pretty good.
Turn Up the Sun - great opener, terrific Oasis song altogether Lyla - a complete Oasis classic, gets the crowd really going Bring in on Down - terrific to see this one back and done with a new style (Noel's leads and wah) Morning Glory - best versions of it, along with 01, since the MG tour. Zak's drumming suits it well Cigs & Alc - love the power in it and Zak's drumming brings it out well, especially the jam-tease outro Idle - felt like an instant classic in the set, even more so as Noel did it better in 06
and so on...but this opening 6 was a great start. Plus...
The Meaning of Soul - lots of people don't care for it but its one of my favourite live songs Guess God Thinks I'm Abel - great way to start the encore, spacey vibe A Bell Will Ring - Another that gets flack but it sat nicely in the middle of the set. A good number. Love Like a Bomb - Not brilliant live but I'm really glad they gave it a try! Still decent.
It's too bad they never gave POTQ and KTDA a chance live. LTBL was a nice treat acoustic for Radio DJ Milan but full band at a gig would have been pretty special. Noel's said they had it perfect but never ended up doing it during the tour. What a shame! Same with dropping Headshrinker. SCYHO sounded good too.
The vibe in the band was good. They were getting acclaim and respect, winning new fans, cementing their status with older fans, and tackling the band's critics. The LDSMD film captures this tour well and I love watching it, especially with the commentary.
We also had some really good performances from this tour too...
EDGe Radio 105 Toronto City of Manchester Stadium V-Festival Chelmsford Boston Tweeder Centre Benicassim Festival Hilversum Acoustic Session Netherlands Clapham Grand, London Yoyogi Taiikukan, Tokyo
Yes, not their best live era but certainly better than you might think.
Didn't mean to write you an essay here but there are many thing I'd like to say to you but I don't know how else to. Share your favourite gigs, song performances, thoughts, moments from this tour!

Have to add, I love Liam and Gem pulling out GGTIA acoustic on the Late Late Show before the album came out. Wish they'd done LLAB too, but I suppose 1 song is all they got.

The band were stable and enjoying every element of that tour. The relations between Noel and Liam seemed like the best they've ever been (seriously). I still find it amazing that the band imploded 4 years later, I really did believe Oasis were about to do something really big again (and I guess they almost did, if DOYS and the resulting tour were done properly).
I still like DBTT, but it hasn't aged well. That being said, it is a very important record for Oasis in the context of its time. Pivotal that that era was bang on form coming off of the darkened SOTSG-HC days (shudder).
Was actually watching some of the COMS 2005 Gig earlier today....the sound mix was poor as fuck on the DVD, but musically the band were tight, Liam was okay, the crowd were utterly mad fer it, and the lads all looked cool as fuck. THIS is the Oasis I miss. Come on lad, reunite damn it.

The whole crowd was mad fer it, Liam was sounding good, and everyone in the band seemed to be enjoying it. Songbird is another point in the concert where you could tell everything was all good with everyone by some of the vibes you get.

HC left radio and the fans in the usa wanting more , something that hadnt been since morning glory

Regarding the Don't Believe The Truth era, I have to say it's one of my favourite ones. Mostly because it was around that time I discovered the band, maybe. But the band sounded great, looked cool and the album is one of my favourite. I have listen to that the most I think (after Definitely Maybe). Love the documentary Lord Don't Slow Me Down, too. Always interesting to see what a band (especially Oasis) is up to backstage and so on.

It was the only era I got to see them live, and it was great. I have to say it never sounded very good on TV whenever I saw a performance, the mix just wasn't right, like you were listening to it through a duvet. Liam's voice was seriously fucked as well, he didnt sound human for some of it. He has sounded a lot better since.

I thought that CD:UK performance in 2002 was brilliant, one of the best moments of that era. Particularly like the bass playing, guitar solo and pace of that version of RNRS. Also I think it one of their best performances for TV and also ITV got the sound right.
I remember Iin 2002 they also did a session for TOTP on BBC and there were issues with the sound and mix of the band. I think the session didn't have the energy of the CD:UK session.
Shame during that era Noel and Gem didn't do an acoustic session with versions of LBL, SCYHO etc

What are the 5 best gigs on this tour? I've only listened to the Manchester gif and Morning Glory at V Festival.
