The song that made me an Oasis fan was Live Forever. I mean, I'd heard Wonderwall and DLBIA before, and thought they were great tunes, but fuck me, Live Forever was made to create diehard fans.

Yeah, exactly. Live Forever blown me away like not a single song has done before. Then add to it, Some Might Say, The Masterplan, Slide Away, Morning Glory, Whatever, etc, and you become a die hard-fan. Simple as that.

I would play them The Cage and say "It doesn't get any worse than this. It all gets better from here!"

Supersonic I think.
It's got that universal appeal to it.

I would play them The Cage and say "It doesn't get any worse than this. It all gets better from here!" Well, make sure they don't listen to the other songs on that album then

Like people have said before, it really depends who it is, but I reckon this'd be a decent all rounder:
1) Rock N Roll Star * 2) Some Might Say * 3) Live Forever * 4) Don't Look Back In Anger 5) The Importance of Being Idle * 6) Supersonic * 7) Half the World Away 8) Morning Glory 9) Falling Down 10) Champagne Supernova
* Yeah, it's a bit long... If they wanted something a little more condensed these would be the ones I'd choose.

my guitar teacher once said to me that Oasis were god, but too soft for him. So i made him a mix tape (yes i'm that old)
Headshrinker Bring It On Down acquiesce Fade In-Out (live in den bosch) Fade Away Cigarettes And Alcohol (live at earls court) The Swamp Song Morning Glory My Big Mouth D'you Know What I Mean
it worked, he loved Oasis after a couple of months, but his favourite tune is the very heavy The Importance Of Bing Ide

Some might say & Sunday morning callI think if that was my first exposure to Oasis I'd never listen to them again.... Nice song but it's fucking depressing and goes on for way too long.

It depends on the person. There’s some people I’d give The Masterplan to, there’s others I’d have listen to Stop The Clocks.
And whether we like it or not, there are probably songs from Be Here Now and Heathen Chemistry that are better introductions than stuff from DM and WTSMG.
But that’s coming from someone whose first two songs - Half The World Away and The Importance of Being Idle really made me want to look further into Oasis.

Probably just wonderwall tbh For me that didn't help at all. Hated it. But like Jessica said, it depends on the person. The song that got me into them was DLBIA, despite having it heard an awful amount of times before and despite having heard Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Live Forever, Whatever, Little By Little, Songbird, Lyla, The Importance of being idle, The Shock Of The Lightning, Falling Down and Half The World Away (I used to watch The Royle Family) all multiple times before. I now love all these songs. Someone else may be hooked on Wonderwall instantly. I might find Champagne Supernova brilliant, but someone else might find it too long and bombastic, and prefer something simple like Talk Tonight Your tastes in music change through the years as well. Sometimes you need to be in a specific phase of your life to be able to like a song, because you can relate to it more, or simply because your taste has indeed changed a bit.

Yes, totally agree here. It just depends of the person. For example, I have a friend who likes Wonderwall, who loves Don't Look Back In Anger and dislikes Live Forever and Champagne Supernova. Each to everyone owns. I got into Oasis because their songs speak to me in a certain way. I don't how what I absolutely love in Talk Tonight, Whatever, Rock'n'Roll Star, Half The World Away, etc. They just seem to describe a lot of things I feel and I dream, probably... That doesn't happen with The Nature of Reality though.

What about best song to play to someone to ensure they never listen to Oasis again? Probably all in the mind Won't Let You Down ...proceeded by Ain't Got Nothin' played three times in a row, with each time three times louder than the previous time.

I'd say Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, as starting points. If they still don't like Oasis then Live Forever, Supersonic, and probably Songbird are good bets to get someone into them. But if those songs still don't win them over, then they're a lost cause

Cigaretts&Alcohol << introduce them right to the core of 90s Oasis. Live Forever << played that to my friends and they became addicted.

I'm gonna say Live Forever because for me that's their ultimate song and always will be.
You either get Oasis or you don't.
