Not a lot to tell about this interview. A lot of questions about life, stardom, videos and children. Few questions about Chasing Yesterday and songwriting. He said he wrote his best song, it's called : Dead On The Water. uploaded.net/file/tdlwdkr9

... And that's if we are lucky to get to hear them. Anyway, could the song be the dark sequel of Riverman?

Don't worry, we'll probably hear Dead On The Water from some soundcheck this tour.

Dead on the Water sounds like the title of a Doctor Who episode.

Translation of the review:
" For the first time, Noel Gallagher is the sole producer of his songs, and the road he has chosen emancipates him further still from his family history. 'Riverman' takes flight after two minutes towards a flying guitar solo and finishes in floydian style, including a saxophone solo. Gallagher continues with the heady hights from his last album ('The Dying Of The Light') but also opens the door to other universes: boosted rhythm borrowed from the Kasabian cousins ('ITHOTM') or 'space jazz' (according to him) on 'The Right Stuff'. Only two tracks based on hot guitar riffs (lock all the doors and you know we can't go back) make us regret the animalistic push his brother could have brought to the table. This new success ends on a magnificent finale with Ballad Of The Mighty I, featuring the great touches of Mr. Johnny Marr." 4/5
Sorry if it doesn't sound well written. Translating directly like this is hard, even for a native speaker haha

Dead On The Water is a rubbish song title... I've just -tried- to read the article. Noel's verbal antics are instantly recognisable, even in french. Anyway, the song is actually called "Dead In The Water". It's not like it would make a big difference, but whatever...

Anyway, the song is actually called "Dead In The Water". It's not like it would make a big difference, but whatever... That makes way more sense. Dead in the water is a common (British?) saying. Means something was doomed from the start or is going nowhere. Claus really needs to start coming up with original song titles...

My attempt (with some assistance from Google Translate...) Any help from the French would be much appreciated.
Will he come? After weeks of dithering, Noel Gallagher has decided at the last minute that yes, eventually he will come to Paris to promote the new album he recorded with High Flying Birds. Although "Chasing Yesterday" has not really needed as it holds the road between rock and heartfelt ballads typical for gallagheriennes(?).
But the English songwriter still has a sharp tongue and has every intention of benefiting the French press, "Rolling Stone" in mind. We find him in a small private room at Hotel Costes, after one of the few photo sessions he kindly did in December. He sighs of relief when joining us over tea after the last flash off our photographer. With a clear eye, large (?) hair, he shows a perfect British politeness and silenced in a wink, rumours about his perpetual bad mood. In fact, the elder Gallagher even seems to have never been happier. His first solo album was certified double platinum, and the international tour with 143 dates has been a success. The weather is bad, yet he smiles and says: 'We don't live on the right side of the world, do we?' as if to say that the interview can commence.
"You do not have the amateurish photo sessions. Is it difficult?"
It's really difficult because posing for the camera makes me very uncomfortable. Fortunately, a shoot can go pretty quickly. The horror of horrors, are the videos. I really hate that. Some narcissists appreciate the exercise, such as Lady Gaga or Rihanna. For me it is a completely waste of time.
"Let us move on to more cheerful topics: the new album, for example. You are filing your sauce(?), using saxophone, you talk about love ... So. Are you happy?"
Oh, everyone tells me that 'Chasing Yesterday' is a reservoir(?) of love songs! Another thing journalists who analyse music too deeply... Even if their interpretation is relevant, I don't have enough distance to validate it. Not yet, at least. To me, it's much more simple: a song is either good or it is bad. And the main thing is to touch people because there is magic. When we see the magicians on TV explain their tricks, it makes me gripe!(?) Why not let the charm be? Develop the imagination? It is the same with regards to explaining songs. Leave them alone.
