Good review, and the fact that everyone seems to prefer Chasing Yesterday to HFB makes me excited for the new album.

Nice review, well written, some new info, and it actually sounds more like a 4,5-5/5 from the text. Comparing it to WTSMG is definitely a nice thing.

Good review - I wonder what the NME will give it...

I'm surprised this is up so quickly. Usually Allmusic puts out their stuff on release days, hell sometimes they are even a little late to review some stuff. Great news that Erlewine likes it. he's one of the most well rounded reviews out there

That guy absolutely praised Be Here Now and said that HC was a better album than SOTSOG.

I can't contain the excitement!

"Certainly, Chasing Yesterday is the work of a musician very comfortable with his craft."
Basically yes.

I've thought the second one was going to be better ever since the debut came out, now I'm entirely sure.

"Noel Gallagher's second solo album, Chasing Yesterday, echoes Oasis' second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?" "You Know We Can't Go Back," a piece of incandescent pop that plays as a resigned companion to "Step Out." "Lock All the Doors" surges with the cadences of "Morning Glory"
I don't think I can be anymore excited than I am for this album release...gonna be a long 2 weeks

Erlewine is a great reviewer, and AllMusic is the most reliable source on reviewing albums.
It never has an agenda against anything, and is broad minded in its appreciation of music, unlike say, NME and pseudo intellectual bollocks like Pitchfork who love to get on bandwagons.
An improvement on the debut album though - Erlewine wasn't keen, pretty much agreeing with critics of the album here who said it lacked any bite or excitement.

^ Agree on the first album though. It was a good, solid album, but not exciting by any means. Pretty safe.

It's definitely going to be better. I thought HFB1 tried to be too psychedelic at times. Riverman seems to be shaping up nicely as a great opening track. I think you and I have a different definition of the word psychedelic I probably should clarify. Not exactly "too" psychedelic, but has some psychedelic cues scattered around in it at times. Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks for an example.

Let's not be too confident - NGHFB was a somewhat safe but very solid album, true it SOUNDS like CY will be an improvement, but we should be wary that perhaps the tracks will not make for as pleasant an experience as the reviews... That said, I think we can say with confidence that this will be better than any Oasis album post-2000 and that can only be good. On the other hand, Noel's days of writing stone-cold classics are over - so not to be either too hyped or too dissmissive of Noel at this point, I think this album will be very, very good and if he handles the songs and the tracklisting right (Lock All the Doors into The Dying of the Light seems strange) it COULD be his best since Morning Glory, but it could also fall into the good-but-not-great category of pretty much everything he's done post-1997 (save Heathen Chemistry).
