He's almost managed to convince me that he doesn't listen exclusively to music made in the 60s with this playlist. Very un-Noel isn't it?

Just listening to that Black Rivers song:
'this reminds me of a Doves song...'
and then I find out that Black Rivers is the name of the two brothers from Doves' new band.

Noel has a broader taste in music than all of the other members of Oasis put together - probably one of the reasons he's a far far far superior songwriter than all of them put together. Got a Mojo magazine compilation disc - looking at the playlist it's not your stereotypical view of Noel's music tastes.

It amazes me he hasn't got at the very least a part time radio show going on, especially when having time off in between albums. 6 Music would suit him down to the ground.

Andy seems to have a more diverse taste compared to Gem and Liam though. He dabbles in a bit of dance/electronic music. His dj sets are decent enough. I feel that Liam would just put on a Beatles album or the Stone Roses first album if he Dj'ed.

I think the fact Oasis never really changed their sound gives the Rep of Noel only listening to the Beatles and Sex Pistols and nothing else. I think Noel deep down would have loved Oasis to change it up a bit. The man's got some great taste though.

WTF is that first one, knew the Jungle tune and have loved it since I first heard it, third one is boring, Black Rivers song is nice, last one is nice too.
But only 5 songs, not exactly a big playlist eh?

Nah, I don't reckon that's anything to do with it to be honest, if he does have such an eclectic taste (and I'm sure he now does), it's not found its way into his own music has it really? Oasis were always known by sneering critics as mash potato rock (or whatever the phrase is). Although I take exception to middle-class snob types curling their lips in the direction of my favourite band, to say that the music of Noel Gallagher is straight down the line standard rock and roll, I don't think would be too far from the truth. When Noely G went for the psychedelic groove a trifle bit on DOYS, it didn't compare with the straight down the line rock and roll of old, because Noel's bloody good at that. No doubt when he was writing Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory, it WAS all about the Beatles and the Stones and the Kinks et cetera. Hell, Tony McCarroll tells a tale of him being dismissive of The Smiths even, at one time. No, imo, Noel's a far (far far) superior songwriter simply because he's a natural. He has a talent and a flair for it, so that he can take otherwise standard melodies and lyrics and make them into damn good rock anthems. Whilst Liam and the rest simply produce standard, often quite forgettable tunes (more often than not). And of course, he wasn't always such a good songwriter - you've seen those lyrics in that old notebook of his from the early nineties I assume? - he learnt a lot on how to craft his songs from the Real People apparently and of course, his magpie-tendencies have helped him along too

I love how critics slagged them because they were ''standard rock and always doing the same'', yet also slagged them of on SOTSOG and DOYS because they were so different and how they should stick to rock because they were good at that. They couldn't ever win, could they
