If you were to introduce a friend to Oasis, which compilation album would you rather give them? Stop The Clocks mostly features the 'glory days' bar a few and Time Flies covers most of the Oasis catalogue.

Time Flies every time. I'm not sure any fan could have picked a worse tracklist for an Oasis best of than Stop The Clocks.

100% Time Flies;
Even though so many classics are missing (Champagne Supernova, Aquiesce, Slide Away etc) it still gives a better overview of the band entire career; not just 94-95 plus 3 or 4 others,
Stop The Clocks could and should have been perfect because Oasis were so much more than singles but just 18 tracks over 2 disks is baffling! Why not fill the entire disks rather than just 45 mins or so each?!! Another Noel Gallagher quote which infuritated me was during the 'Lock The Box' segment he talks about tracks which nearly made it (D'you Know What I Mean, Rockin Chair, Don't Go Away etc) but said that'd make it 3 disks which is pushing it! No it bloody wouldn't, it means each disk has 12 or so songs on and takes up an hour, still leaving 20 mins of wasted space!
Also doesn't Noel sing nearly a third of the tracks on that album? I know he picked the tracklisting but thats not a fair reflection of the best of Oasis

The first Oasis CD I ever bought was Stop the Clocks (along with Be Here Now) and I turned out okay, haha! But I'd definitely get Time Flies for someone I wanted to get into Oasis.

Time Flies, definitely. Gives a better overview of their career indeed. It has songs from '94 up to 2008, and that's much more representative than Stop The Clocks, which is basically a compilation of 94-96 with some random shizzle from after that, which feels like it's put on there just because they had to or something

Stop The Clocks is a better collection of songs I think, but Time Flies is definitely the better album for someone who fancies giving Oasis a try.
STC is meant to be a definitive best of Oasis setlist if I'm not mistaken, which is probably why they didn jam the 2 discs full with 30 songs or more.

I prefer Stop The Clocks every time. Better collection of songs and flow. Some of the BEST Oasis songs were not singles. Noel knows this, Stop The Clocks displays the band at it's best.

Agree with Lennon on this one, Stop The Clocks is far better. The worst songs on that collection are Lyla and Go Let It Out, apart from that every single tune is fantastic.
Meanwhile, Time Flies has Who Feels Love, I'm Outta Time, She Is Love, Roll With It, Shakermaker (which to be fair isn't a bad tune but the weakest off Definitely Maybe while Time Flies has Rock N Roll Star and Slide Away from the same album).
So Stop the Clocks everytime for me - it was the album that got me into Oasis, and a good blend of the hit singles along with the arguably more interesting deeper album and b-side cuts.

Sure Stop The Clocks has it's flaws, only 9 tracks on each disc, should be 10-12 in my opinion. Not having D'You Know What I Mean? or Whatever seems criminal.

Stop the Clocks. Better songs, better flow and less filler. Rock N Roll Star, Champagne Supernova, The Masterplan... they're songs I'd want someone to hear if I was trying to get them into Oasis. Stop the Clocks is also much shorter therefore it gets them hooked. If they don't find something to like with those 18 tracks they won't like Oasis anyway.

Stop the Clocks is the most useless release ever, especially considering only one fucking studio album followed. Pointless.
Time Flies, despite its idiotically lazy name, was by far the superior release.

D'You Know What I Mean and especially leaving Whatever off it is criminal, along with Rockin Chair and Listen Up for me personally. There's nothing terrible on Stop The Clocks though - that's different for Time Flies personally. My mate who doesn't know much about Oasis heard I'm Outta Time and laughed at how pathetically Beatles like it was thanks to Liam and Gem's obsession with being luddites. It's embarrassing that song - nice melody, fucked up in the studio.

Embarrassing? I think it's one of the best things Liam has written. But hey, each to his/her own.
Agree with D'You Know What I Mean and Whatever being left off being criminal though.

Maybe your mate is prejudiced when it comes to Oasis.

Don't get me wrong, I think its a well crafted tune, with a great melody. I've heard covers of it and it sounds amazing - I even like Lily Allen's cover. But the 'Beatlefied' production on it absolutely ruins it - it has the Lennon style piano, the McCartney style bass, and the Ringo style drum plod. To top it all off, incase you didn't get their fascination, they insert some random Lennon quote. Bizaare and totally needless - so much so that the unfair jibe 'Beatles tribute band' actually seems applicable to this tune.

Yeah now you mention it, I DO hate the Lennon quote. Don't really mind everything else. Especially since it's inaudible! Needs to be turned up in the mix - it would still be stupid, but would sound better than the mumble that was released. How Sardy fucked that and the choir in The Turning, I will never know. So obvious those flaws. We should have made a "Sack Sardy" petition long ago. He's the idiot who promoted the groove concept that became the basis of DOYS, leading Noel to scrap what he had been working on. So it's because of this fuckwit we got shit like TNOR, too.

I would say Time Flies. That album re-introduced me to Oasis, and I'm thankfull for that!
I was a big Oasis fan and loved the first three albums, but after SOTSOG came out I disliked it so much I didn't bother listen to any new stuff.
Then, around a year ago i came over Time Flies at a record shop, bought it, and suddenley got curious about the rest of Oasis releases. Just bought DBTT, first time I played it I thought it was shit. But after playing it some times I'm starting to love it. Now I'm thinking about getting more of new Oasis releases.
So even if Stop The Clocks may look better I think Time Flies is a better way to show Oasis to someone as you get it all!

Oh yeah I remember hearing The Turning for the first time and then reading there was a choir on it and thinking ''choir? where?'' It's not THAT silent, but it could've been a bit louder. I just didn't notice it the first time.

The choir on the Turning sounds great! But you have to listen to it on a really good set of headphones to notice it properly. I think I get what Sardy was going for but I don't think it worked out very well.

I'd say Dave Sardy is overrated outside this forum, nobody cares about him.
