Does anyone know anything about the origins of 'Round Are Way'? The primary inspiration was "Got to get you into my life" from Revolver - the drum fills are patterned after Ringo's phased drum fills on The Beatles song. Noel later adapted the guitar riff at 1:26 for the main riff of the track 'Be Here Now'. The lyrics have a jokey Penny Lane-ish vibe to them, its an affectionate, wry portrait of English working class life isn't it? Probably the last time Noel could get away with it before he became massively wealthy and divorced from 'real life'. The lyrics the birds are "minging" is English slang for ugly / unattractive, Noel later used this again in the demo of Dream On the "fat blonde bird's minging" was later changed to "It's got no meaning" for the released HFB version.

I'd love nothing more than to hear Boneheads take of BBH.

I'd love nothing more than to hear Boneheads take of BBH. It's a little known fact that the Bonehead vocal is actually on the original 1995 mix, underneath Noel's vocal. Some people will know the 2009 vinyl mix of this song sounds clearer, and the reason why is that they took that Bonehead vocal off from underneath Noel's vocal.

Yeah I was wondering about that, although on the 1995 mix there's backing vocals and talking and general nonsense flying about everywhere - that's why I find it so funny.

I must admit I hadn't noticed it was a different mix before. I was aware that the 2009 reissue was remastered, so perhaps the wrong tape was sourced for Bonehead's Bank Holiday (the same thing happened with the 2009 vinyl reissue of Definitely Maybe, which features an alternate mix of Sad Song with double-tracked vocals on the chorus, rather than the version originally released on the Creation vinyl and Japanese CD of the album. The same alternate mix can also be found on the Definitely Maybe DVD). Would love to hear Bonehead's version in full one day.

That is brilliant info Rain. What interview were those quotes from? Honestly, it came from the original oasis-ultimate site and they didn't put the source. I know that site was pretty in depth and pretty reliable source. I'll keep looking to let you know. I know you remember cuddleykittie pretty well.

Check out the website below which is utterly brilliant. Go to 'Music' and then 'Waterfall'. Down towards the bottom of the page (its a big page) there is a scan of Noel's comments on each Morning Glory song from Select Magazine. www.thisisthedaybreak.co.uk/

Here's something else I've just noticed. If you look at Noel's track list for '2nd Album', track 8, (track 3, side 2) is called 'Everything's Alright'. I would hazard a guess that this is in fact a reference to Stevie Wonder's 'Uptight (Everything's Alright)'. As we know, Step Out, a song which was going to be track 8 on WTSMG, is very similar to this song. I imagine then, that either Noel was referring to Step Out as 'Everything's Alright' due to it's similarities, or was originally planning on doing a straight up cover of the song. Or I'm completely wrong and it's a different song, ha.

Anyone have more info on them?

'New Stones' could be a working title for Some Might Say? The SMS demo had a very 'Stonsey' vibe to it.

I always thought headshrinker sounded like the most sex pistols version of oasis I'd ever heard. Never felt it sounded like the stones personally.

What's the story, morning glory Need a little time to wake up... That's about getting a boner in the morning (sure I've read an interview somewhere confirming this.) The rest is about doing coke and just enjoying life surely? I figured that, but, y'know, was kinda hopin' it would be somethin' else. browsing around though everything else points to it as well, including the many drug references. This will sound lame and made up but I assure you it isn't. I was told a couple of years back by someone who spent time with the band during the WTSMG days that the chorus to the song MG simply came about because Noel got a phone call at his hotel one morning from a from a girl he was seeing. She asks, "hey, what's the story morning glory?" And Noel replied "I need a little time to wake up." As I say I know that sounds rubbish but it's what I was told by someone who spent time with the band in those days. She who was telling she found it funny that MG is this raw spit and sawdust rock song set to lyrics about a trivial early morning hotel phone call.

That's a story that's been about for years think noel said it on the O Zone bbc2 show maybe.. The girl in question tried to sue them as she said she was the author of the line / title 'what's the story morning glory' he said she used it as a greeting (she was someone noel spoke to regularly too not a random)
