Be Here Now is my favourite album of all time, not just my favourite Oasis album. I love everything about it, and don't know why Noel constantly slags it off. IMO it is still the best thing Oasis ever produced.
From the overlong, over produced wall of sound, to the roaring guitars and sweeping orchestra, this is Oasis as they should be heard - loud, brash confident swagger. This is the ultimate upbeat feelgood album of all time (no surprises that the album was created while the band were off their heads on coke.)
And during this period, the B sides were even better. The Fame is still my all time favourite Oasis single, but I got the Fever and Stay Young are up there too, along with Going Nowhere.
This is the sound of Oasis hitting their peak, the glory years, when they reached the pinnacle - this is the sound of Knebworth, SuperNova Heights, Euro 96 and Blair's landslide victory at the General Election. And this was the album that also closed the period of the Britpop era forever.
Oasis would never quite reach the heights they hit with this album. Many rate Definitely Maybe or WTS as their crowing moment, but for me it will always Be Here Now.

I wouldn't say the BHN bsides were Oasis at their best, but they definitely were good and they all have a flavour of their own.
Stay Young Angel Child Heroes I Got the Fever My Sister Lover Going Nowhere The Fame Flashbax Street Fighting Man Cigarettes & Alcohol (live GMEX 97) Sad Song (fade in intro mix) Fade Away (warchild version)
Stay Young is an Oasis classic, should have stayed in the setlists longer, even on the BHN tour. I'm really glad Noel brought Angel Child back a few times recently, he and Mike Rowe do it so well. I've always thought that an acoustic version of Heroes (with Gem on harmonica) would have been great during the DOYS stadium tour in the summer. Perhaps cos I dreamt it happened, but I don't think anyone would have complained! Don't care too much for the Street Fighting Man cover though. The best part is Noel talking at the beginning.
"Fuckin hell! Covered in fucking wires and everything..."
I also think the SBM EP as a package is one of Oasis' best.

I'm with you, I adore BHN, and yesterday I was thinking in myself during "I got the fever" how great and underrated the bsides from that era are. The drumming during IGTF (especially during the epic-coke induced solo) is immense!! The fame, especially the verses and bridge/prechorus are as good melodies as anything noel ever wrote. Same with flashbax, don't get why not more people love this tube. Should've been on the masterplan IMHO. That whistle solo Of course going nowhere is beautiful, as is angel child (even though it took me a while to appreciate that one). Stay young of course belongs on the masterplan, good thing Noel didn't got what he wanted while choosing the tracklisting for the masterplan! Don't mind my sister lover, but the least good tube from that era. Not really into the covers...

I remember it was my favourite Oasis album at one point. Probably just after it came out.
It had the potential to be a top album.

The Noel sung efforts both on the album and as bsides were dross, Angel Child excluded. Everything else is awesome.

Sorry I love The Fame as well. One of their most underrated songs.
