Arctic Monkeys' debut at #30 but Definitely Maybe at #42. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn at #47 and Please Please Me at #17! Whenever I think the people at rolling stone can't get anymore ridiculous, they manage to surprise me! This is a terrible list.

You know article monkeys ahead of Dm is laughable ENOUGH.....good band but please ahead of Dm not on my worst binge would I say that' is it a good lp ...no doubt but you know rolling stone man they hated Oasis so for them to earn a spot in top 50 is like a top 10 ya know ? Monkeys AT 30 is why I don't even follow the magazine anymore they pick bands that are there darlings and run with it so Oasis at 42 . Is a win. But the whole list is typical stone trash ...why I cancelled subscription in the 80 s man And before someone says how do I know rs hated oasis if I cancelled in 80 s. Barnes and noble drank my java and read it for free that's all it's worth anyway

Whenever I think the people at rolling stone can't get anymore ridiculous, they manage to surprise me! This is a terrible list. well I'm certainly no expert, don't know the majority of the albums that made the list. but just comparing AM's Whatever People Say etc. to Definitely Maybe, that placement is off. both are solid debuts, but Definitely Maybe is so much more timeless, ageless rock and roll, never get tired of it. "Whatever" has some good songs but at heart it's pop ... not that the Monkeys haven't moved beyond that 'just pop' vibe now, I love them, they're one of my favorite bands. but debut vs debut, should not be 12 places higher than Definitely Maybe IMO

There's good songs on Arctic Monkeys' first album no doubt but without any of the magic of songs like Live Forever and Slide Away. Of course Rolling Stone roll out that cliched journalist viewpoint on oasis "stealing from the beatles" Please Please Me at #17 as well... typical exaggeration of The Beatles, sure they were very good, but an album of 14 songs, of which 6 were covers and the rest were just well crafted pop songs no longer than 2 minutes in length doesn't make it the 17th best debut album of all time imo.

I love love love The Beatles, and Please Please Me contains one of my favourite songs of all time - the album title track. But come off it Rolling Stones - it set the ball rolling for something great and spectacular that became the greatest group of all time, but would they really have it on that list if the fab four had imploded after their, say, second album? I like the album, and the covers are executed well, but by no means is it great. But then again, the American media think Morning Glory is better than Definitely Maybe, when it isn't.
Perhaps because Definitely Maybe is a bit more parochial in its outlook in being very northern English and working class and doesn't translate to the clueless journalists over the Atlantic, yet they go prefer the more derivative (but still spectacular) Morning Glory, yet harp on about Oasis being derivative. If they were serious about wanting to be the pretentious wankers and join in with the likes of the Pitchfork, they would seriously prefer Definitely Maybe. The fact they don't get Definitely Maybe highlights these 'know it all' critics MASSIVE shortcomings. Just shows how ignorant they are without them knowing about it.
Again, Arctic Monkeys above Oasis? I love Arctic Monkeys too, but that just seems like a magazine that is intent on thinking themselves more superior to common knowledge.
Like Jit, I'm mildly surprised they're even on the list, but I just can't take a publication seriously when it gives Paris Hilton's album 3 stars.

The only album that deserves to rank alongside Definitely Maybe in this list is Appetite For Destruction. Not looked at the list yet but assume it's in there somewhere but the other 41....wtf

Number 42 is a joke, but seeing the rest of the list its obviously not to be taken seriously.
'Nevermind the bollocks' should be no.1 and 'def maybe' no.2 IMO

Debut wise
There are so many arguments to be had. You will always forget one where you go ohh shit yea wait that gotta go but then wat do u take out ?
For me and my musical taste Don't give rats ass whether you agree or not cause you ain't in my freakin head. Not debating the bs that sometime goes On here about style ,arrangement.,track selection , None of it. Just balls out what hit me in my face first time I listened. Gun to head. No order the 5. That got me where it counted
Definatly maybe Never mind the bollocks Appetite for destruction Greetings from asburypark The doors
You can debate all you want when making lists I just go by what hit me in the gut and heart those are them. If they ain't as technical or arraigned right I care less its rock and roll And that is what hit me hardest may not be for you but you ain't in my ears nor I yours

For me, I think Oasis, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, The Doors, Arctic Monkeys, DJ Shadow, Kendrick Lamar, and Erik B. and Rakim should all be placed higher
