Anyone else ever think of this? Not musically, but both were kind-of generic rock sounds people think of when they think of Oasis. Both the lead single to an album. Both are said to have harkened back to the Definitely Maybe sound when released. Even the types of lyrics are similar; contrasting actions like "I get up - when I'm down, I can't swim - but my soul won't drown" and "I got my feet on the street but I can't stop flying My head's in the clouds but at least I'm trying." I think both were written by Noel as an attempt to write a song that harkened back to the more punk-sound of early day Oasis.

I love the fast paces, slightly electronic tinged vibes. A very good single that actually got played a lot in the New York/New Jersey radio market in the fall/winter of 2008. The Hindu Times always sounded too generic for my ears like paint by numbers Oasis. I wish Noel had more balls and used the demos drum loop and some of its lyrics. A missed opportunity......

I agree. The intro to the demo was awesome. I love the clip where both Liam and Noel are listening to it on the tour bus....

It's a stretch comparing The Hindu Times to The Shock Of The Lightening even with the points you've made, but I still see your point.

In fact, the lead single for the last three Oasis albums was in the key of (B)-- not to mention the numerous other Oasis songs written in this key.

Despite you saying "not musically", i think they are musically very much alike. They are both in the same key (as Lyla, which is also a lead single between those)and Rock'n'Roll Star, which may also refer to your comparison with definitely maybe...
So yeah, they got similar structures and a positive upbeat, which i guess suits perfectly for a first single and feels like an Oasis signture type of song...

I think they kinda fell into a rut in the 2000's with releasing the same type singles; the rock up-tempo lead single, the ballad, and the Noel sung single.....
