I'm aware that this is going to sound really weird but whatever.
Next to my CDs, I have a sheet of paper taped to the wall where I write down each CD that I pull out to listen to and make note of it on the paper. The same with the next Cd and so on. So for 4 months I've been tracking my listening habits. Which albums get listened to most, if patterns emerge between which albums get chosen (does one album put you in the mood for another? etc)
It's a very rewarding experience. I then add the data to a computer file which has all of my albums listed and look over what I get.
Fun, right?
But WHEN do you listen to your music?
Are there albums you like to enjoy more at night, with people over, driving, in different seasons? eTc
Curious as to what you have to say...

I find that my music listening habits change as my life situations change. By that I mean that when I was in college I'd listen to loads of stuff on my laptop on campus, mostly Rock based bands . . . Oasis, Stone Roses, Beatles, etc. Now that i am around the house more often, I tend to listen to more subtle music . . . Simon & Garfunkel, Josh Groban, Sinatra, etc. When I drive i listen to a lot of Sports Talk radio, but when that gets annoying I tend to turn on either a rock station or put in a rock CD. Anything from Alice in Chains to Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Music listening has changed though, b/c I find myself listening differently via the internet, YouTube, iTunes, etc. Online I tend to listen to tracks instead of albums for obvious reasons. My itunes has everything from Rock to Musicals to Classical to some Rap, and it is usually set to random, so I get it all but never as an album. I do miss listening to entire albums though.
Cheers!

from about 2005-2008 I basically only listened to the Clash, Libertines and Rolling Stones, i also happened to be strung out on heroin at that time. Other than then my music listening patterns vary greatly and have no real pattern.
I'm currently going through a phase of not listening to a lot of music, not really sure why, kind of reflective period or transitional time.
God bless.

I rarely listen to an entire album in order. Except the first listn. Then I just mix it up with a bunch of other music and click the random mode. I have music on pretty much all day long. Even when I'm doing other stuff, like watching TV

I usually can about half way through an album before my attention starts waning. So I change over to a different album and then so on and so forth. Strangely enough the only album that I've never skipped is Dig Out Your Soul...Weird right!

2002: Was listening to 1/4 of the stuff I do now 2013: Listen now to an expansive list (which I won't put down) and currently still expanding that list every gig I go to. Favourites change daily, but one of the reasons (don't judge0 I like Eyefear is Mr Cecati's hair: Wonder if he thinks 'why is everyone looking at my hair' every night

I like putting some jazz on after 2AM, a local station, and then one I like from my TuneIn Radio app. Otherwise just a mix of alternative/mainstream during the day. I really like listening to full albums though, so some of that too. I turn my music off when I'm with people, they just don't get it. Albums for when I'm in a bad mood - NGHFB, and The Masterplan. 2,000 post!

For some reason I always listen to Oasis when ever I'm on public transport. D'you Know What I Mean? and Morning Glory are my walking songs because they make you feel like a boss and if I have to do any studying or work I'll put something a bit softer on like a bit of Weller, Style Council and some Bowie stuff

I always listen to SOTSOG on a Sunday. The Masterplan is best in wintertime, and DM best in August. But I listen to them all of the time. Still, SOTSOG only on Sundays.
I listen to full albums mostly. I randomize on itunes when on the computer for a short while but usually it is full albums.

Very dark and bleak record for me on a Sunday.

Only habits listening to music in my car, because to work is 27 miles one way and time to come back to home is the same. My car doesn't have Aux jack in it, so I have FM transmitter mp3 player set up LOL! it works and 15 bucks for it. At work sometimes on night shift I listen music on my phone, but it's not really focus what I'm listening to, because well focusing on my job. Usually I just play one artist a while and flip to another.

I rarely play a complete album from start to finish uninterrupted as I love all the b-sides and extra tracks.
All my Oasis stuff is on the ipod with a playlist that plays it all in rough chronological recording order (Oasis and Beady Eye and solo stuff). b-sides etc are mixed in with the actual albums sessions they came from (even before I had the ipod I would reburn the albums with the corresponding b-sides mixed in). It goes for ages as I've added all the concerts I have too.
I also have a playlist that plays just one version of each Oasis/Beady Eye/Noel Gallagher song (ie no alternate live versions or remixes or demos). I usually play this one on random (13.8 hours in total if anybody is interested).
The third Oasis playlist is a "best of" which I actually put together for a mate who wanted "The Best Of The Gallagher Brothers" stuff on three 80 minutes CDs. That was fun to compile - he made it clear he wanted what I thought was their "best of" rather than their "greatest hits" and that I could do the tracks in any order I thought best.
Longest playlist on the ipod is my Beatles collection. Chronological again and it runs for 10 days and 13 hours straight (no solo stuff - just the Beatles stuff). Obviously I usually dip in and out of this one.

I never sit and listen to music (besides when I'm driving) I listen when I'm doing stuff around the house like cooking, cleaning and my favourite time to listen to music is while I'm vacuuming the house with my iPod and Marshall headphones. The missus loves this because I really go to town with the vacuuming because I don't wanna stop listening to music so I end up vacuuming under beds. The house is completely dust free because of this haha.

I usually listen to music on the way to and from school. I'm partial to my ZuneHD. When I'm at home I tend to listen to vinyls. When someone recommends me a band, I tried to either listen to their entire discography or half their albums+ 1 if the artist has 6 or more albums. I tend to stay on a particular artist or song for weeks on end. Taking it apart and putting it back again. And, congrats Jessica on number 2,000. Now get to 3,000

Haha, mine is by no means fancy either - Toyota Avensis. It has no aux jack so I have a bunch of cds which is annoying. But there's nothing like driving and listening to music LOUD even if it is in a Avensis.

I'll quote John Lennon - "I can't find the song to suit me mood"

I don't know over where you live, but I know a bought a little fm transmitter that is Mp3 player that can play off of thumb drive. I paid 15 bucks for it at Rite Aid. Hooks right up to cigarette lighter. It works decent. Might look into it.

I'm not sure I have music habits. I have a very odd and varied taste in music. If it doesn't spark some kind of emotion in me, I usually don't listen to it more than once. Having said that, anything with power in it - whether its a lyric, a voice, an instrument - a moment that just stands out in a song, that's what gets me. I need to relate to it emotionally in some way. And then, typically, that starts the process of writing for me, and a song will inspire a scene which inspires a book. Or, on a smaller scale, just gets me through my day! There are very few Oasis songs that don't "do it" for me, and they are, by far, my biggest music habit. So there you go.

I even bleached the bathroom yesterday to listen to music. For a student flat, it must be the cleanest!
