I loved what JJ Abrams did with Star Trek. It was easily one of the best sci-fi films of recent years. Hopefully he can do the same with Star Wars. But anyhow I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Yeah they are on top of there game at the moment. Whedon deserves special mention though because while The Avengers wasn't my favourite comic film of last year to even make that work at all took a special effort.

Abrams did a great job with Star Trek. Perfect casting. Good, clever writing and they got Nimoy involved which was tremendous. All it was missing was Shatner but that was probably pushing the envelope too far. I know they did write him a scene at the end but was never filmed. Star Wars is in good hands. Just don't let felicity cut her hair.

So Disney announced they are going to make stand alone films of a slightly younger Han Solo and Boba Fett. This could be a serious hit or miss on the Han Solo movie. Harrison Ford is such an icon in that role. Casting will be important. Currently I have no idea who I would want to play Han Solo in his late 20s, early 30s. Any ideas?

You lost me at "so disney announced" Still miles better than saying "George Lucas announced". The guy lost his mojo after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade in 1989.

Shia Lebeouf would be good as a young Han Solo. He did a good job in Indiana Jones. I think he would fit the role quite well.

He was his carpenter and stand in for Star Wars test screens.

His performance was universally panned and many fans of the Indiana Jones saga flat out rejected him. The backlash was horrific and even Shia hated the film. I think Disney would steer clear of that mess again.

Come on he wasn't that bad. I don't know about universally panned but I quite liked him in that movie.

I respect your opinion but from my personal experience, I have yet to meet anyone that thought Shia playing Indiana's son was a good idea, let alone his performance. I wanted to walk out when he was swinging from the trees with the monkeys. Was this an Indiana Jones film or a Race to Witch Mountain film with the Rock?

Gotta' love Harrison Ford, he wasn't even that bad in Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, just a shame that everything else in that movie was

Obviously Ford isn't confirmed yet (he is confirmed to be in talks though). He's one that definitely has to be involved imo. Whether or not Chewie gets cast will let us know how closely they'll stick to the EU.
The standalone films were announced but not which characters they'll focus on.
A rough timeline of events:
2015: Ep VII 2016: Standalone I 2017: Ep VIII 2018: Standalone II 2019: Ep IX At least, this seems to be the plan. A lot of rumors that Abrams wants to push the 2015 date back a bit.

Also, somewhere in your timeline Abrams has to shoot the final installment of his Star Trek prequel trilogy. Something tells me Star Trek Into Darkness is setting us up for a show down with Khan in the third film.

They said there would be two but Bob Iger himself said that he'd leave it up to Kathy Kennedy and Lucasfilm to announce the details in their own time as it is Lucasfilm that is making these (with Disney money) so KK is the boss with regards to Star Wars. If JJ Abrams is doing the three Star Wars films he won't be doing another Star Trek. Several cast members have said as much.

I thought he did a great job with the first film.

Looks like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford may all appear in the next installments of Star Wars in some shape or form. All I gotta say is...time to hit the gym people! Then: Now:

They'll only have small parts anyway. Lucas has always said a third trilogy would be about the next generation (Star Wars The Next Generation) and Hamill said himself that his part was to be an Obi-Wan type roll. Interestingly, he said the other day that if he doesn't do it they'll write Luke out of it so that would suggest a more minor role.
