Liam Gallagher plans to keep rocking into his seventiesBeady Eye front man hopes to be just like The Rolling StonesLiam Gallagher has said he hopes to be just like The Rolling Stones when he's older - by continuing to make music into his seventies. The former Oasis front man, who recently turned 40, says he has no plans to call it quits just yet and hopes that he can still perform like Mick Jagger and co when he's old. Speaking at the premiere of The Rolling Stones documentary Crossfire Hurricane, Gallagher told The Daily Star: "The Stones are still bad boys. As long as you look cool, have a good pair of jeans and a good head of hair then crack on with it, man. That’s what I’ll do." With Noel Gallagher recently declaring that he wouldn't reform Oasis even if "all the starving children in the world depended on it", it looks like Liam will need to convince the rest of Beady Eye to keep rocking into their seventies. Last week, Liam Gallagher was spotted walking out of George Michael's London gig. The Beady Eye frontman accompanied wife Nicole Appleton and friends Tamzin Outhwaite and Kate Thornton to the concert at London's Earls Court Arena, but spent most of his time at the bar with bandmate Andy Bell. Gallagher was reportedly unimpressed with Michael's performance and left early after becoming frustrated with a group sitting in front of him who were trying to get his attention. www.nme.com/news/beady-eye/66748

Yeah, when I think of good artists continuing till the latter stages of their career, I usually think of either exclusively solo artists, or guy who use to be in bands, but are now solo artists. And also, they usually have a signature instrument to them.
As someone pointed out, Noel with his acoustic on a stool at age 60 is more foreseeable, just as Neil Young with his guitar, or Bob Dylan with his, Ray Davies, or McCartney on Piano. There's just something "romanticized", for lack of a better term, about that image. The old man still playing minstrels.
I could picture it more easily with Liam if he had more of a signature instrument (he plays acoustic, but that instrument isn't joined at the hip with him) and if he were to become a solo artist, rather than in a band.

Well The Who are still going strong. Can't see Liam ever going solo though.

I couldn't imagine Liam ever as a solo artist. I don't know that he ever will. He wants to be the Stones...he doesn't want to be Neil Young. If he were still in Oasis I'm sure they could have been the Stones...doing the business until someone keeled over on stage. Without Oasis who knows what is on the cards. He should do it as long as people want to see it and he wants to do it. So I hope he is still doing it in his 70's. As for the voice. As long as people are willing to pay to hear it...why should he stop?

I can totally imagine Noel writing albums and performing live in his 60s or 70s while still looking cool - he's the kind of mature "rock" star who kinda gains coolness over the years. Not sure about Beady Eye and Liam though...it would be easier if Oasis just reunited ;D

I could see Noel going into his 70s, but could also see his stubborn side showing and retiring before then.
With Liam, I think his stubborn side is to prove himself even more......

It makes me laugh when people bring up Liam's voice. How many people go to a gig to hear his voice? They go to sing along and stand in awe at his stage presence, just as they do with Mick Jagger who's voice has been shot for years. Gigs are for the people who are there, not the ones sitting at home on the internet downloading bootlegs.

Gigs are for the people who are there, not the ones sitting at home on the internet downloading bootlegs. When I was younger and was loaded or high at most gigs I went to, it didn't matter in the least. Now it does to a far greater degree. ALthough, you're right, if everyone is singing along it makes less of a difference. And "stand in awe at his stage presence"? Seriously? I'm a grown man, not a teenage girl. I get awed by a great performance, not someone's aura. Beady Eye sold out a tour in minutes before anyone had actually heard their music. I'd suggest the vast majority of the crowd Liam attracts are there because its Liam, unconditionally and regardless of vocals, and they'll have a brilliant time in doing so.

Liam will not be rockin' in his seventies of course he was exaggerating as usual and neither will noel, they will both grow tired of writing and performing music in time, you have to stop some time, David Bowie retired in his late fifties, McCartney should have hung up his boots about ten years ago IMO, I don't think either Noel or Liam have the same enthusiasm that McCartney has for performing the same songs years after years.

Can't wait to see him balance a tambourine on his head, flick a V, and sing out of tune in 30 years time.
Will he do any Oasis songs?
