Noel Gallagher's debut solo album 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' is set to keep X Factor winner Matt Cardle's debut album 'Letters' off the top of the UK album charts next week. According to pre-order sales from Amazon.co.uk, Gallagher is currently 13 per cent ahead of Cardle, giving him a substantial head start when both albums formally go on sale on Monday (October 17). Paul Firth, head of music buying at Amazon said that though Cardle's pre-order sales have been very strong, demand for Gallagher's album has shot up in recent weeks. He said: "Matt Cardle’s album has been pre-ordering very well, but over the last few weeks we’ve seen a significant increase in demand for Noel’s debut post-Oasis effort". Gallagher has also enjoyed significantly better pre-order sales than his brother Liam's outfit Beady Eye did, with 'Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' currently set to achieve 252% more pre-orders than Beady Eye's 'Different Gear, Still Speeding' did. www.nme.com/news/noel-gallagher/59776

Come on Noel!!! Destroy this fuckers!! Would be nice to have him at the number 1 with a solo album. Not easy at all i think. Fuck Andy Bell, he´ll never be number one with his solo albooms

ffs it really is a sad state of affairs when there is an album battle between a talented, established, gifted and proven singer/songwriter/musician and a karaoke show winner!
Cardle can fuck off with his album of nursery rhyme bullshit.

If Noel tops the album chart and beats Cardle, it will be the resurrection of real music. Music officially died on the 26th November 2006 when West Life kept Stop The Clocks off the top of the charts.

Sounds like great news! Anyone think Noel's got a shot to keep Coldplay out of the top spot when they release their record the following week?

Noel has more of a chance of winning Wimbledon next year than keeping Coldplay out of the top spot.
So what are the estimates for units solds in the first week? Beady Eye sold around 60-65K if I recall. Does that mean Noel is coming in at about 120K?

hopefully he will enough of a lead as i think Matt might get more Itoons downloads He has been outselling him on iTunes preorders as well Matt Cardles big promo was on the X Factor last week and that didn't do much for him by the looks of it

Sounds like great news! Anyone think Noel's got a shot to keep Coldplay out of the top spot when they release their record the following week? Not a chance! Beign 13% ahead of Matt Cardle isn't even that much I think, as we all know both NG and Beady Eye had a lot more pre-orders than other bands and they also sell more physical copies in general. And there's no point really in pre-ordering and iTunes (or other) download. So hopefully Noel will be albe to keep the n°1 spot, but I don't think it's decided yet!

Where was BDI vs. Jessie J in terms of preorders?
That could give an indication.

Where was BDI vs. Jessie J in terms of preorders? That could give an indication. matt cardle is nowhere near the popularity of jessie j, in fact most people have forgotten about him and he has been very vocal about how he won and has been left behind by cher lloyd and one direction i see noel'o getting the nod here

His debut single is struggling to go top 5 which tells you how much he is struggling

It's a disgrace that Noel is even mentioned in the same breath as Matt Cartel, or whatever his name is. If anything, that's an indication of how ludicrous the music industry is now.

people pretend like there haven't always been teeny bop stars in the charts before..Low quality pop has been around just as long as rock.

The bloke can sing like but he's the sort of guy and voice who is not going to do well long-term from a show like that.
Wagner would have walked to #1

obviously these are for only one sector of sales Amazon.
its possible noel is more than 13% when we combine... amazon,play.com, hmv, itunes and more.
we should see some strong sales for noel next week. BDI did a very respectable 67,000 early in the year.... and noel is obviously doing much more on pre-orders than BDI soooo I should think 100k atleast for noel next week.

I read somewhere that Noel's album will be available on Amazon in mp3 format for £4, therby increasing his sales massively. Come on Noel! Of course, we have many folk gearing up to get to the shops early on Monday to get their copy of Noel's album like myself who haven't preordered.

Plus I think that Noel's website has probably gotten substantial orders none of which would have been reported yet. And he probably has more there than Cardle has on his as well.
Plus he has his multiple formats which will boost his sale. All the people that buy CD and vinyl.
