anyone who says it isnt is talking bollocks, its a culture that promotes violence drugs guns, sure i like rap and grew up listening to it, but i had values beyond that music, thick kids adopt that lifestyle, the bling element does nothing about a work ethic. its not racist to say these things its fact! put it this way if you played a loud speaker in front of a load of 12yr olds, with lyrics promoting violence drugs guns, they are going to adopt that lifestyle. sure violence has always been there quadrophenia etc, but the music didnt have lyrics promoting violence. its idiot upper and middle classes who view rap as freedom of speach etc clueless knobs, 50 cent awful human , for a form of music with so many words its said the same shit since nwa.............phew rant over

There really isn't 'gangster rap' anymore if you look at the current hip hop artists.
Do you also blame video games, violent movies, tv shows like The Wire, Sopranos etc?

The roots, tribe called quest , de la soul, dont sell as much as guns bling bitches rap, fact! The wire brilliant TV series yes.....but how many people having watched the wire quote it and talk like the gangsters in it...theres even comedy sketches where they say "oh hes been watching the wire!", Are any of you who seem to disagree with my comments from the UK, its full of little wannabe gangstas! Where do they learn this shit from? Music and films......its absolute shite to deny it.

How many people acted like liam and noel in the 90s, you go to any oasis gig and see a load of wanna be liams? They are obviously influenced by the music and personas.......Rappers etc influence the kids with lyrics about guns and violence its totally true.

Correlation does not yield causation. Just because you see a higher crime rate with rap listeners than you do with classical music listeners does not mean that rap caused the criminal behavior.
This reminds me of a study I saw the other day posted in the Telegraph. It showed that Internet Explorer users had lower IQs than any browser. Fine, you can't deny the correlation, as the study showed those results. But you cannot infer that there is any causation here - you can't deduce that Internet Explorer causes people to be stupid, nor can you deduce that only stupid people use IE. Chalk it up to external and coincidental factors. The browser one uses has no baring on one's intellectual level.
Another study in MSNBC showed that an hour of TV watching takes off 22mins of your life. But is TV really killing you? No. The article went on to say that that's due to mere inactivity. Completely misleading and pointless study and title, in all truthfulness.
Just because you can correlate something isn't good enough to show there's a direct cause.
I think you should immerse yourself with the importance of parenting and education before you try to blame other external factors.
Basically, I think if you eradicated rap and/or made those kids listen not to EMINEM but only to Beethoven, there would still be the same amount of violence within that social-economic background. Whereas, if you improved parenting and education within those backgrounds, you would find violence to drastically decrease. This isn't that hard of a concept. It's totally true.
