what extras are we talking about? and how does it look? much better than '96 or '97 edition? I don't think cameras were ready for HD 30 years ago, but I guess they can make something

I don't think cameras were ready for HD 30 years ago, but I guess they can make something Yes, I reckon it should look at lot better than previous editions. Assuming it's been well looked after, a 35mm negative potentially has higher resolution than HD. Full HD is 1080 lines per frame. I'm led to believe that studios have to do 4k scans of 35mm film to capture all the detail. Anyway, if you check out the Blurays of Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) you'll see that movies from around that time can look excellent in HD, given time and effort! There's some frame grabs that give an idea of the quality possible on the following pages Alien: www.dvdbeaver.com/film/dvdcompare2/alien.htmBlade Runner: www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/dvdreviews34/blade_runner_hd_blu-ray.htm

Well the original version that were in the cinema have been available on DVD since 2004. They'll shortly be out of print. Only a few more days for this. I should have my copy next Monday or Tuesday.

i will be buying the blu ray set taking out the blurays tossing them in the bin and putting the orignal 2006 dvd release in its spot, i don't want to hear vader yell nooooooooo in return of the jedi, or hear that terrible ewok celebration music again. fuck you lucas. im mainly buying it for the bonus discs.
why can't he just release the original unaltered trilogy ffs.

I am tempted to buy a blu-ray player just for Star Wars... Star Wars, Toy Story and Oasis- I don't remember a life before loving them!

I've seen all six on Blu Ray now and I'm sorry but the "Noooo" adds to the scene and connects to two trilogies better together. If Lucas wants to change something he can. They're his movies. If you're going to let something like that spoil the best presentation these movies have ever had (because trust me, they are amazing an much better than any previous release) then it's your loss and no one elses.
