Yes we've all heard the name now and the majority think it's shit. Perhaps they're lowering expectations so low that it can only get higher!
However, the news that Steve Lillywhite is producing is encouraging. He's produced a lot of great work including a lot of classic early U2 and of course The La's album.
At least it's not an unknown or Dave Sardy.
What do you think of this choice?

Sardy did a pretty good job on each of his LP's but it was time for something new. I love this choice.

Steve Lillywhite is legendary. Your right. He has produced some of the greatest U2 albums. Along with many other leading artists of the last 30 years. Lillywhite has been around for years! Going back to the 1980's! A seriously great producer. Right up there with Brian Eno. A good choice!

Y At least it's not Dave Sardy. Not that I dislike his production - I mean, he did a good job of Don't Believe The Truth by making it a stripped down album, but I didn't think DOYS was that great. Sounded a bit flat at times and wasn't as ambitious as I'd hoped. Lillywhite did a very good job of getting U2 back on track with All That You Can't Leave Behind after the disappointment of Pop.

I thought Sardy was terrific but this is a good time to change it up nd try someone new.
PErsonally I would have loved John Leckie. But Lillywhite is good news too.

He does have a good track record but as I said in another thread he hasnt done much of late. He has worked closely with Brian Eno & did the "La's" album.
The proof is in the pudding, I'm going to wait to hear the output. I am looking forward to it though lets put it that way!
