On a similar subject, the instrumental and arrangements (not sure if those are the right words as I'm not technically minded) on all songs on the DOYS tour songs seemed to be the best in a long time, it was only the lack of variation and vocals that let the tour down. Have to say that I agree 100% on that matter! As far as the actually music from that tour goes it was brilliant. In 2008-2009, they seemed like DOYS was THE theme, as in the past live tours and album werwe different. This album and tour had the same vibe, sound and artwork etc. It seemed like they wanted everything to be done this way and I loved how I Am the Walrus sounded, Roll With It, TBWTL, CS & of course My Big Mouth (preferred the latter version to the original). As far as the thread goes.......I love Champagne Supernova, people may say the lyrics are nonsense and to us yes they are, but they will mean something to Noel so I wouldnt refer to them like that. They fit too as you feel that you are getting lost. After 2 mad years and 2 superb albums its just like lets all get lost somewhere and enjoy the moment. Its catchy, uplifting and yet calm and peaceful too. Sounds great live and was very very popular despite not being a single, but that explained Oasis at that time. Them first four albums upto 1998 (including The Masterplan) was just jammed full with hits, we could pick 20 songs of them albums to play live and every single one would be a classic!

It was never amongst my favorite, and never will be. However, that's not saying much with the vast competition of Slide Away, Live Forever, Acquiesce, Masterplan, Dont Look Back in Anger, RNRS, Colombia, the list goes on and on
I always disliked the "summer" part, but the "why why why" melody is bone chilling good.
But it still a very good tune.
And it's incredible live.
1995 -- Oasis at their peak, and the guitar solo is epic:
2009 - Itunes festival showed Liam still has it, amazing vocals:
But the 1995 clip shows why it's amazing. Just pure genius that video.

When they came to Lisbon last year, the crowd sang along religiously on 3 songs only: Wonderwall, DLBIA and Champagne Supernova. It's a classic, and it is epic. I love it.

Champagne Supernova is amazing, definitely up there among my favourite Oasis songs. Doesn't matter to me if the lyrics don't make sense, it just has so much energy in it. The buildup all the way to the breakdown, which is just a massive wall of sound. I couldn't name a bigger anthem if I wanted to It's pretty much the only Oasis song I remember hearing for the first time (with the exception of stuff that's come out since 2002). Fuck - I mean, this song is legend, and if you ask me, really deserves to be known BETTER. It's a shame that everyone knows Oasis for Wonderwall because, though a nice song, it's nothing fantastic. But Oasis will go down in history for WTSMG because it truly is a fantastic record worthy of all the praise!!

the first oasis song i remember hearing. Its just amazing. The melody, the structure, that solo and Liam's vocal is one of his best. Its one of the best songs of all time. I mean I get people who don't like Wonderwall or some other type of Oasis tune but Champagne Supernova in my mind is one of Noel's top 3 musical masterpieces. Its just a brilliant piece music. Its a perfect piece of psychedelic, anthemic, powerful, nostalgic rock Its in my top ten from them.
I just recommend if you haven't putting on a good pair of headphones and just listening to it. MG isn't the best produced album of all time but it just sounds so damn good and there is so much going on you'll probably find a nice little lead, a nice drum fill, or something else that you forgot about or never paid attention too.

I quite like "Champagne supernova", but still can't understand why it is considered to be great.

Probably the greatest thing Noel ever wrote and Liam ever sung. It's Oasis at the absolute top of their game in every respect. Both completely original and completely familiar at once.

love the way it starts so slowly, builds up till reaching that fantastic solo and ends slowly again like a final march or something.. liam's vocals are simply beautiful and it's definitely on noel's top 5 compositions

It's an amazing song. Really really amazing. How can you refer to it as if it were a simple thing? as if you could write a song of that magnitude? and it's not even a simple song, it's an anthem.
The greatest thing of all is that everyone can give it the meaning you want.
Some people say the song is about how drugs change people, others say it's about reincarnation, others say it has no meaning at all just stupid lyrics.
But the truth of it is that really has no explicit meaning. There may be many things. But to me, the song it's about a person from his past and his life. I mean, the lyrics of Noel always make reference to the past, on the change of life. So, I think at one point in his life he turned back and realized that this particular person had changed, both had lost pleasant moments and now they are old, he was never there and now the time has passed and he can't turn back time.

A friend once told Noel that he thought Noel had inadvertantly or subconsciously written that song about his father, Tommy Gallagher. It was in the Paolo Hewitt book, "Getting High". If I'm not mistaken, Noel didn't disagree. In a broader sense, it's just a song about escapism and a better tomorrow- a popular theme in the first two Oasis albums.
