The promotors at V Festival have released the following news below:
London Sunday 23rd August 2009: V Festival organisers regret to share the news with fans that unfortunately tonight’s headlining performance will not go ahead as planned. Unfortunately front man Liam Gallagher is unwell with Viral Laryngitis and has been advised by Doctor’s not to perform at tonight’s event.
Organisers are pleased to be able to announce that Snow Patrol will be filling the headline slot.
An Oasis spokesperson commented: “After a year of being on the road this is the first performance to be lost to a band member’s illness, so naturally we are all completely gutted. Liam is resting up and should be fine to resume the tour next Friday in Paris.”
Festival Director, Bob Angus commented:
"Fans will naturally be disappointed but of course – the artist’s health must come first. The acts on the V Stage are sure to play their set of their lives so fans have a fantastic Sunday night at V Festival, Chelmsford”
Oasis headlined the Weston Park leg of the two day event last night with Las Vegas indie kids The Killers repeating their Chelmsford performance for an eager crowd tonight at the Staffordshire based event.

Wtf? This is shit...I'd be raging if I bought tickets for this. Oasis are probably the only band worth actually seeing at this fest. I don't see why Noel can't just do a set instead, might actually liven up the set a bit as well. Even with Noel's illness, if he was gonna go play guitar anyway he could just replace Liam for tonight.

Just a question. Let me get this straight, it says on L4e newsroom....... "Oasis blasted out an impressive set avoiding technical problems at V-Fest"
Were they to play two nights or did I miss something??

This sucks, Snow Patrol were playing anyway. I am surprised Oasis have cancelled & Liam & Noel are BOTH not feeling well. Noel acoustic set should be the substitute

Well this has left a massive bitter taste in my mouth. I’ve just got back from Chelmsford, we decided to leave early and avoid the traffic as its not like Keane and Snow Patrol are worth any of that. Today had started out as being amazing we got in the arena and went to the main stage to so Ocean Colour Scene do a blinding short set, they should have been further up on the bill. After they finished my girlfriend heard a bloke talking and his phone and sounding quite angry as he’d just been told by the person on the other end of the line that Oasis had pulled out. It didn’t take long for this to get around the place as more and more people found out one way or another. It was then announced by the promoters on the screen of the second stage what had happened and that snow patrol (im guessing no other options were available) had been moved to the top of the bill. What really winds me up is that oasis’s press office have spend that last few weeks heightening the relationship between the brother in the press to make sure they are at maximum exposure point for when these gigs come around. It gets to the big day and everyone on the site is really looking forward to it and that it no gig, no nothing just some sob story. If Liam is unwell then fair enough but it must have crossed Noels mind that today would have been his chance to shine, I was lucky enough to see him solo at Koko and a repeat of that would have been fantastic.. But no he also drops some sob story on his blog. What also sticks in my side is that as its a festival I cant see the gig getting re scheduled or even a nominal refund given. I image a good percentage of the crowd had decided to go to V this year based on the fact it would be the last change to see Oasis for maybe 3-4 years. Right im going to put the kettle on and think about the money ive spent this weekend.

They always have to cancel at least on gig on a tour, don't they? (not counting the october gigs that were pulled bc of Noel being attacked)

Their fucking sick. Sorry but shit like this happens. They've been touring a whole year even with little breaks I can imagine it can be tough work (not that its not worth it or anything). Still even if they just got off a little break they might have gotten something over that break. A fight wouldn't cause them to cancel this gig. When's the last time that a fight has caused them to cancel a gig? Its been nearly a decade I would think. Liam has canceled gigs because his voice even in the 1994 tours. Again sorry it happens to singers and Liam's singing style may cause him to have it more.
Now for Noel it seems like he has the shits or the flu or something. It doesn't seem too serious and he probably could perform but still this gig was an Oasis gig not a Noel Gallagher and friends gig. It would have been cool to seen him perform but its an Oasis gig (i know Liam and Noel have done gigs with out each other but still). They aren't feeling well so yeah that sucks and I would be pissed too if i was planning on seeing them but thats just life.

It's fucking poor that Noel didn't even play. Stomach ache? What is he a three year old? Should of manned up and went through. Incredibly weak.

Nah, if they're sick than I agree with Cast.
However, didn't Liam "stay up and drink until 3am" the previous night? One would have to assume a hangover?

if you're committed to performing two nights in a row, drinking just can't be done.. unless you are willing to perform with a hangover. it's absolute bullshit.
the only way they could remedy the situation would be to play a free gig for anybody with a V festival staffordshire ticket, but that would be insanely idealistic

I was there, I saw MGMT instead, who were brilliant, beyond amazing. They opened with Live Forever and had a carboard cutout of Liam onstage I think it's right wank for Oasis to have pulled out, it's one more night >_<
