CNN now saying dead via L.A. Times but not 'official' but probably correct. In a weird way all his albums will go through the roof.

I didn't really dig his music but I think he was a great artist with a sad and painful life.

Never liked his music, and I thought he was strange, but this really puts things into context. Being world-famous at a very young age was the root of the problem, and this plus he's only 50 and it's unexpected makes this really tragic news. Incredibly sad how he never had a proper life. RIP to a true legend - may your legacy live on through the ages.

RIP, do you think the pressure of doing 50 shows at the O2 arena got to him? Thriller for me will always be one of the best records anyone has done

What an absolute travesty. I'm truly devastated. The man virtually responsible for carrying the torch of pop into the 21st century has died. Totally unexpected. Your legendary songs will live with me forever. Billie Jean, Thriller, Earth Song, You Are Not Alone, Beat It, Bad, Black Or White, Dirty Diana, Scream, Smooth Criminal and many, many more. Rest in peace.

Not the biggest MJ fan but Thriller was the first record I remember my mother playing on the record player. In a sense, a little bit of my childhood passed away today... Having said that, I believe this man's (boy-man's?) life was more sad than anything else. If there's an afterlife, I hope he's at peace with himself and all he did -good and bad- on Earth.

What a shame. Totally deflating to me as it was so unexpected. Can't say I was a huge fan of all of his music either but it's undeniable how great of a musician he was. May he R.I.P.

Anyone listened to Beat It lately? That Thriller album is timeless, I wish bands today sounded like MJ did so many years ago.
