I just ordered the Japanese release of Dig Out Your Soul. I got it from cdjapan.co.jp and paid about 32 dollars, including shipping.
I checked Amazon, eil.com, HMV and others sites and that seemed to be the best deal I could find.
Anyone who's interested should check out that site. Extremely english-language friendly.
Can't wait for next month!!!!!

What is there to gain by ordering a Japanese version of the album?

Bonus tracks and the novelty of having the Jap version (if your a bit of a collector) - cheers for this, I'll check it out, doesn't seem to expensive with the shipping, I might take this route instead of buying it in the shop like I was going to.
Edit: On second thoughts, that site looks a bit rubbish and delivery will no doubt take an age so I'll give it a miss!

By the time you get it, it will have already leaked online. I could understand ordering it if it will show up in your mailbox on October 1st, but I doubt that.

I'd give it at least a month but probably more. Looking at that site it may not come at all! I'd be carefull about putting card details in to a foreign site that doesn't look 100% legit, unless you've had experinces from them in the past and they've been ok???
letsmakebelive has a point - it's going to have been out a while before you get it, if you get it all....

CD Japan is a fantastic site. I order from them all the time. They are 100% legit. Shipping takes 4-5 days at the most. I don't think I've ever had anything take longer than that. Just recently I ordered the Verve CD from them. It shipped Tuesday and was in my hands Saturday morning. Unfortunately in the case of the Verve, Forth came out a week after everybody else but DOYS is out the 1st so if things hold up it should still arrive before release in the US and UK.

However if your wrong and it never turns up I will be disapointed at you for a while and then I'll probably get over it and move on, so lets hope your right.

Yeah, Japanese versions are typically always the best. extra tracks, maybe a photo book or something. I dont have too much Japanese stuff but, I do have a few and Ive ALWAYS been very pleased with the product. Im getting the super D but, come Dec. when my missus goes off to Tokyo to see her family for the holidays, Im having her bring me back a Japanese version of DOYS. If someone gets this version next month, can you post up some scans of it?

Is there a reason why the Japanese version has all the extras? I understand that it's an important market, but it shouldn't be more important than Europe/UK?

Japanese CDs are usually more expensive than other countries. It would be cheaper for the Japanese to import them from other countries so to get people to buy them, they put extra stuff on them.

Just to let folks know, I got the Japanese release of "Stop the Clocks" which had two extra songs on it, from cdjapan and the service was great. That's why I didn't hesitate to use them again for Dig Out Your Soul. Again, I just wanted you to know about where you might get the best deal if you were interested in the Japanese release.

I don't agree with extra tracks always being a good thing.
I mean, of course I want to hear the bonus tracks, but definitely separately from the album itself. An album is an entity, it's a total piece of art and the band have thought the contents of it deeply through. Bonus tracks ruin the whole flow.
Imagine if after Champagne Supernova, (WTS)MG would have Step Out and The Masterplan on it. I mean, both are wonderful tracks, but they'd just disturb the big picture of the album completely.
So I'll just want the normal version of the album and then maybe download the bonus tracks differently. Or on a separate CD, like Suede did with Head Music.

If its not an extra booklet the single one is longer.

Bonus tracks are nice and all, but "Sitting Here In Silence (On My Own)" was the biggest waste of a bonus track ever. Period. The Japanese release for DBTT only had an extra booklet with the lyrics in Japanese characters. There was an Asian Tour edition that had a few other extra goodies, but that came later.
People are speaking pretty highly of IBIA though, so this release may be much more worthwhile.

It was supposed to be on there in the first place...the band had to remove it for contractual reasons. I made a copy of WTSMG and included Step Out on there, in between SMS and CNS (where it was planned to be).

And, well, still... You know, people still listen to CD's. Maybe in the car, maybe if you're away somewhere... So it's not all iTunes yet. I don't agree with extra tracks always being a good thing. Yup, it might fit there in that slot but think about it being the last song, the one after CS... wouldn't work.

So what the heck *are* the actual bonuses on it? Amazon describes it cryptically as:
"Japanese pressing includes DVD and bonus material for Japan Only. Sony. 2008."
Getting "Sad Song" on the Japanese "Definitely Maybe" was cool... but what is this one really going to be good for?
I wonder if the DVD and bonus material are the same as what we're already getting with the Deluxe Box Set?
On a sort-of-related side note, I just realized I have the Japanese version of "TIOBI" and didn't even remember buying it... LOL.

The bonus material is the 2 extra tracks.
