Well, I'd give TSOTL 7 out of 10.
So, with that in mind, should I be glad that there are four songs better than it, or concerned that there are six songs worse than it?

I could see 6/10 and I could see 8/10, but NO WAY is this song a 9/10 IMO. It's got that old Oasis attitude, but it's more of a shell of Bring It On Down, then this colossal tune fans are hailing it as.

Yeah, it's just average for me... Throw THT, Lyla, and TSOTL in a bag and pull one out... Doesn't matter which one you get.

I will have to say that TSOTL is really underrated among fans.
It is almost ridicolous to see people slag it off just because it hasnt a big chorus.
The energy and sound is far better than any track from DBTT. In my opinion it would be the best track from that album. No, it hasnt the best melody but music is just as much about energy and sound as melody.
To be honest I would rank it the 5th best track on Be Here Now as well. so it definitely looks good.
In my opinion TSOTL is a 8/10 song but I am usually conservative on giving high grades. I wouldnt give any track on DBTT above 7.5/10.

So because TSOTL doesnt have a monster Chorus it cant be a great song? Bullshit, its a top tune fellas, Its got a great verse and the chorus DOES grow on you. Its atleast a 8/10 tune. I give it a 9/10. This is the Oasis song fans have been waiting for a while now. This is the new Rock N Roll Star/ Cigs and Alchohol

TSOTL deserves nothing more than a 7/10. I think people are just happy because it's somewhat energetic. But in order for it to be an 8/10 or higher, it would need to have alot more melody. Good/great music is only half of the song. Melody/lyrics is the other half . . .

Lifts it to classic status imo Yea but they don't even make sense. Believe me I'm not a stickler for lyrics being brilliant. I mean some of the best Beatles songs are fuckin gibberish for crying out loud. However, you can recycle melodies and phrases only so many times before it just reeks of laziness and not having to be bothered. I mean come on...Noel couldn't think of anything better than "love is a time machine, up on the silver screen, it's all in my mind"...If it's on the silver screen (movie screen), how is it in your mind? I mean things like that make it hard to get into cause I'm always thinking in the back of my mind 'wait this makes no sense'. And no, I never thought that when listening to songs like She's Electric, Digsy's Dinner, Columbia, etc...

7/10 seems fair. I've never seen the Ear Has No Memory, was that on the deluxe CD/DVD version of Don't Believe The Truth? I only bought the single CD version.

TSOTL is better than Lyla, and even that wasn't a bad tune! So if you're rating TSOTL, what's THT and Lyla? 6/10? Even worse? Come off it.
TSOTL is no worse than 7/10, but the amount of people - at least the amount of outspoken people - with that rating is staggering....."The song rating, blows my mind, falling down on what the rest of us know...."
9/10 for me - big sound and great attitude and vibe (back to the BHN era, and about time too), the lyrics are ok. Since Noel normally delievers with lyrics, we can give him the odd gibberish one here and there, and if you're judging the song by its lyrics then by your stilly standard BIOD, SMS, all of BHN, etc are crap too.
And I don't get this notion of a "crap chorus" either. Sure it could have been drawn out a bit further, and sure the guitar solo could have been developed more - and if both were it would be for the better (hence I'm not giving this a 10/10 song, improvements could have been made). But the chorus is in no way crap! And nor do I see how anyone, including Noel himself, claims it's not catchy? "All in good time" and "Come in, come out tonight" are infectious!
And the verses are MEGA
Plus, Liam's voice is spot on - whether or not that due to studio effects or natural doesn't matter, he sounds ace either way.
And the back vocals/echo (whatever it is?) sounds good too.
It's just lacking that killer guitar solo - if it had that it would indeed be comparable and even better than It's Getting Better Man (Which is a tune I personally love).
Follow the pattern - Oasis' lead singles are almost never the best on the album, for some strange reason, and normally fall around the 4th or so best song. IF TSOTL is 4th or 5th best song, this album is going to be monumental! Hell, it could be the best song and we could still be fine as long as there's 4 songs that are consistently as good (Falling Down to name one already)!

The chorus has grown on me, Liam's voice is top-notch, and yeah - it's got a good vibe. Nonetheless, it'll always have shite lyrics, and it'll always be missing a proper guitar solo.
7 out of 10. No more. Not now, not ever.

How the hell do you give it a 9/10 and then say it's not comparable to It's Gettin Better Man? I agree IGBM is better, but not even that is a 9/10. Yes you're right, if the solos were better developed and mixed better, then yes I'm sure I would be head over heels for the songs...but it's not there...instead leaving me the listener with this feeling that somethings missing. Then combine that with the fact the chorus is entirely forgettable, and that's how it goes down to a 7/10 in my book. And because I knew someone would bring it up, I addressed the lyrics thing in my original post which you obv decided not to read too well. Yea but they don't even make sense. Believe me I'm not a stickler for lyrics being brilliant. I mean some of the best Beatles songs are fuckin gibberish for crying out loud. 7 out of 10. No more. Not now, not ever. Same for me. I don't quite understand why Oasis always releases the same type of first single. The songs are always classic Oasis, but with this new album and the supposed change in direction, why wouldn't they release a song that represents the change? People are already familiar with the quote unquote plodding oasis rocker. Why not throw a curveball and mix the shit up?
