Falling Down
The summer sun, It blows my mind, It's falling down on all that I've ever known, Time'll kiss the world goodbye, Falling down on all that I've ever known, Is all that I've ever known.
A dying scream, Makes no sound, Calling out to all that I've ever known, Here am I, lost and found, Calling out to all...
We live a dying dream, If you know what I mean, All that I've ever known, It's all that I've ever known.
Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly, I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide, I tried to talk with God to no avail, Calling my name, and out of nowhere, I said "If you won't save me, please don't waste my time"
(Is all that I've ever known...)
Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly, I cried the rain that fills the ocean wide, I tried to talk with God to no avail, Calling my name, and out of nowhere, I said "If you won't save me, please don't waste my time"
The summer sun, It blows my mind, It's falling down on all that I've ever known, Time'll kiss the world goodbye, Falling down on all that I've ever known, Is all that I've ever known. This is some of Noel’s most thought-provoking lyrics, with many levels present. Summer Sun was obviously worshipped by ancient peoples, and the speaker is clearly in awe ‘’ it blows’ his mind and it clearly is prompting him to kiss the world goodbye, whether on a universal level or on a personal level. And so this is falling down on all that he's ever known...ie that there is no god. The speaker isn’t I don’t think suicidal though
‘we live a dying dream’,
to live a dream is to be in a state of joy generally, and as this is his life obviously it’s going to die due to it’s connection to us . It’s just fact, and is probably one of the main things that will be ‘’known’’
Nevertheless even though he knows he must die regardless of what lays behind the veil, he will still endeavour to ‘’catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly’’ by himself ie. Bring about peace, happiness
The speaker’s agnostic nature does allow to call on external help, but the lack of communication prompts a bitter response ‘’if you won’t save me please don’t waste my time.’’ The genius here is that in a godless world like nowadays it could easily be God saying this to us.
Overall in essence noel is saying you’re your own god but there’s a hint that he does contemplate the existence of the big man and something more than jsut 6 foot of earth

Your looking too much into this. We both know that Noel just writes words that sound good on top off the music

Overall in essence noel is saying you’re your own god but there’s a hint that he does contemplate the existence of the big man and something more than jsut 6 foot of earth Sigh. Just to put you back in your place: 1.) Dying Dream: This can be interpreted in either of 2 ways: Literally - The dream/goals you had are now dying/fading away - same premise as his song Fade Away Figuratively - As I mentioned in my other post, it's general consensus/urban myth that if you die in your dream you die in real life. So if he's living a "dying dream" in this sense, then everything he's experience is bleak and failing. Either intepretation results in the same conclusion: Negativity, hopelessness, etc 2.) I tried to talk to God but to no avail This is not a religious song, but uses religious connotation to make his point of hopelessness. People believe in God to have faith - to believe in something, to get them through their hard times. With that lyric of God not being able to save him means that he's beyond being saved and is basically a basket case. This song, quite simply, is about hopelessness. Nothing more, nothing less.

And what he says to God ''please don't waste my time'' is an almost fuck-you sentiment.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the songs Noel was referencing a year or so ago when he said he literally had nothing left to write about except the psychedelic trips he had as a kid. I mean "summer sun, it blows my mind, falling down on all that i've ever known"...

I mean "summer sun, it blows my mind, falling down on all that i've ever known"... Ah, forgot about that line. Summer sun = promising. If you learned anything in HS English class, you'd realize that the seasons symbolize life: Spring - birth Summer - life Autumn - aging Winter - death And you'd also know that light and sunrises symbloze life, while dark and sunsets signify the end/death So "a summer sun....falling down...." means that everything good is now ending, and about to become bleak, fulfilled with despair. It's the same meaning as "Every beginning has broken it's promise" essentially. And it's negative, not positive, for fucks sake. Go back to/graduate High School, then talk to me.

A summer sun falling down on all that i've ever known- means that something new is destroying the notion of what he thought truth once was...

It means the day is soon over.
The summer Sun that blows my mind is falling down = a beautiful sunset On all that I've ever known = All that we've ever known is right here. Right here on Earth. The Sun is setting over the World = on everything we've ever known. Time will kiss the World goodbye = almost midnight and a new day is beggining. The clocks restart.

A summer sun falling down on all that i've ever known- means that something new is destroying the notion of what he thought truth once was... All that he ever known = what once was good Summer Sun falling down = the end of an era Those 2 lines thus tie together, so combine them: It's the end of an era, the end of what was once good. Now everything is becoming bleak... How many movies depict a sunset with the collapse of something - Roman Empire for example...it symbolizes the end. Just give up ugottahavefun. Maybe if yoiu werent so stubborn you would actually learn something.

All that he ever known = what once was good
Don't think so,how can you say that? it's more like truth, and thus, the collaspe of a way of thinking.
Sorry kiddo.
Falling Down= Positive Song (confused verse followed by positive chorus)
CATCH THE WHEEL THAT BREAKS THE BUTTERFLY.
You're wrong and you know it. LOL

Some of you really need to get a hobby. It makes me feel bad for people when I read stuff like this.
You're over-analyzing this man. Noel doesn't go that deep into his lyrics. He doesn't write songs like Yorke or Martin.
Just enjoy it . . .
