RIAA AMERICAN SALES OASIS 6MILLION ALBUMS + 2 GOLD SINGLES 1 MILLION = 7MILLION RADIOHEAD = 6.5 MILLION
BPI SALES UK OASIS =ALBUMS 11.4MILLION SINGLES 3.2 MILLION = 14.6MILLION RADIOHEAD ALBUMS 3. 4 MILLION SINGLES NO GOLD OR PLATINUM
CANADA CRIA OASIS 1. 2 MILLION SALES RADIOHEAD 1.1 MILLION

i love oasis, i love(d) the verve, and i love radiohead. but i acknowledge that the stuff radiohead is up to is far more interesting than the other two. there were beatles naysayers as well back in their time, you know...
p.s. "sounding like" the beatles does not a modern day beatles make. it makes you beatles copyists.

Saw this thread and just thought I'd chip in - been following these forums a lot lately in anticipation of the new album.
First off, why the fuck are you comparing these two? Radiohead are diverse, creative, stretching their sound, whilst Oasis make good, old fashioned catchy rock.
I used to be a huge Oasis fan, but to me the last few albums quickly wear on me - I've heard it all before in better incarnations. I found Radiohead a few years back, took me a while to get used to their sound but I soon fell in love with them - for me, I could listen to them for hours and never get bored.
There are many moronic Radiohead fans, but JUST as many ignorant Oasis fans - just look at a couple of the people in this thread trying to justify Oasis' by linking their album sales. How about you compare Oasis to Britney Spears then?
At the end of the day just enjoy what you want to enjoy, I don't see the need for competition. But if you do have doubts over Radiohead I'd advise you to give yourself a few chances to adjust to them - to me they're mind blowing. Oasis are still my first love of music though.

Radiohead=Modern Pink Floyd, if anything, but it's stupid to say so as there will never be a modern day Pink Floyd or a modern day Beatles or whatever. Radiohead is the modern day Radiohead, Oasis the modern day Oasis. All the comparisons to past artists and contemporaries just detract from the music.

i never got into radiohead. i tried, but i guess i'm not that "enlightened" to "get it." thom yorke's voice always sounded like nails on a chalkboard to me, but i guess every year or so, i'll try listening to the bends or ok computer, but i just never got into them.

It's obvious this one. Oasis make music that comes from the heart, while Radiohead make music that come from the mind - coming from the mind is nowhere as good as it coming from the heart. In the UK, we get the press slating Oasis, yet praising Radiohead for everything they do. If Radiohead are so great, then why don't they have the album sales to match Oasis, and they never get any radio airplay, unlike Oasis who get radio airplay on ALL the major UK stations every single day of they year. Fact. We do get most DJ's on the radio who actually love Oasis, and much of the music press love them, however, it's the upper class toffs newspapers who slate them. If Thom Yorke went on stage and farted into a microphone for half an hour, the Radiohead fanatical press would praise him. Actually, I'd prefer to hear him fart for half an hour, as it's much better than that droning whining voice he uses. You're an idiot. Have you even ever listened to The Bends? If you think Radiohead's music doesn't come from the heart, you're sadly mistaken. Even though we all know Thom Yorke's voice isn't much, he delivers with great emotion when he sings. Here's another thought. A reason I really like Radiohead is because they expanded their sound. When has Oasis ever done that? Thank fuck now they seem to be doing it, because although they both have great songs, Heathen Chemistry and even Don't Believe the Truth are kind of a bore. OK Computer is better than any album Oasis have ever made. I fucking love Oasis. Don't get me wrong. I love them almost more than anything in the world. But don't be such an ignorant twat. You're worse than the ones you're talking about.

What's being ignorant is all you guys sucking the dick of Radiohead! Instant Karma, you need to realize that Oasis has sold more albums than Radiohead by a large amount. You claim that people are ignorant for not liking a shitty band. Radiohead won't even play Creep live! Radiohead tries out the "edgy" image but its all a fake image. Fuck Radiohead and fuck all you people who reply to this post negatively. This is my opinion, other people have their own, don't get pissy about it.

Fuck Radiohead and fuck all you people who reply to this post negatively. This is my opinion, other people have their own, don't get pissy about it. Radiohead do play creep live but they have like a billion songs, I seen them play creep in 2006 - it's not their best song, they dont enjoy it much - a lot of their fans prefer their new music (creep was from their first album ages ago!) similiar to Oasis where they don't concentrate on be here now as much. Radiohead rotate their setlist at every gig as to not play the same set one night after another - something Oasis don't do so you get the same songs from them all the time. I'm not putting Oasis down - two different bands and I wouldn't want Oasis to change for the world but - This is the silliest thing I've read on these forums, you don't have a clue what you are on about and you are arguing points that no one is interested in with no evidence to back them up! no one gives a shit about sales and wikipedia isn't the resource on album sales anyway! and no one knows what each bands entire catalouges have sold to date. Radiohead tries to be edgy?? what the fuck are you on about! they just make different types of music than just flat out rock, it doesn't make them edgy - they are just good at what they do - if you are not in to it then don't listen to it! And you go on to say "fuck all people who reply to this post negatively" yeah becuase any other opinion to yours must be wrong right? behave Also Oasis do have an image that they play up to, its part of who they are, image is important to a rock band - Noel says whenever he leaves his house, he's working and he's a rock and roll star and it comes across in all the media - thats an image. And Liam thinks he's John Lennon - it's harmless and fun but you're off the mark if you are takeing them to seriously and reckon Radiohead are the ones masked with a fake image... Why on earth would anyone even want to compare Radiohead with Oasis is beyond me, does your musical taste begin and end with these two bands or what? just listen to what you like!, open your ears and stop bitching here about bands you don't like that have nothing in common with Oasis!

What some people don't understand is that all rock bands have images to hold up.

OK Computer is better than any album Oasis have ever made. Ha, good one. OK Computer AND the Bends are better than any Oasis album. Those are 2 of the best records ever, and even though Definitely Maybe and WTSMG are also 2 of the best, they're not as good as either of those Radiohead albums...

^ yeah I agree with that, I listen to Oasis (and similar bands) far more than Radiohead but The Bends is my fave album of all time and OK Computer is an outstanding bit of work, there's so much about the album that's great. Still silly to compare the two bands becuase they are so different but if I was going to be anal enough to create a list of my favourite albums, Radiohead would come before Oasis. End of the day though, who gives a shit. I'm looking forward to this Oasis album and going to see them again, gonna be great

Radiohead doesn't come close and Thom Yorkes vocals can't touch Liam and Ashcrofts You are so, so, so, so wrong. Thom Yorke's voice live is an amazing thing to behold. It truly SOARS. I watched him sing 'I Will' on his own with guitar at Earl's Court and it was fucking spellbinding. Real goosepimples good. Liam is also a great singer, but in a different way. Yorke has a better range and pitch. Liam is a rock 'n' roll singer, and there's no shame in that. 10 years ago it would've been closer. But Liam's voice has deteriorated a bit thorugh misuse (everyone fucking knows this, even he does, the apologists who say "ooh, he sounds better" are kidding themselves). Ultimately, comparing Radiohead and Oasis as if it's a competition is futile. They are both superb bands.

Yorke sounds like a dieing hipopotomouse at the best of times he's awful. Most of the songs are buried under reverb their lyrics make the chorus of Some Might say look like Shakspere.

The Backstreet Boys sold a fucking shit load of albums, are they good? They don't play Creep live because it's an average Hollies ripoff. Why doesn't Oasis play All Around the World live? or any other track from Be Here Now? OK Computer is maybe the greatest album ever made. It's beyond me how people don't see that.

Still don't get how people can overrate a band quite as wildly as they do Radiohead. As for the Oasis vs. Radiohead question, I always go back to the Rugby World Cup semis from last year. When England beat France what song was played over the celebrations? Don't Look Back In Anger. I think that tells you which band is more culturally significant and which band means more to more people.
