ARGUE THIS, DEMOCRATS!!
Cut and Run? Wednesday, October 12, 2005 By Neil Cavuto
At a book signing in Detroit this morning, I ran into a wonderful family whose son is serving right now in Afghanistan.
I asked them how he was doing.
"Very well," they said. "He's always upbeat."
When I inquired about the media coverage of the war there and in Iraq — and whether he was catching any of it — they offered this revealing comment:
"He just can't believe it," his dad said. "There's a lot of good they're just not reporting," his dad quoted his son as saying.
I thought of that conversation after reading this Al Qaeda (search) bigwig letter to a top deputy.
"Things may develop faster than we imagine," Aymen al-Zawahiri (search) writes.
He explains that Americans are getting fed up with the negative news out of Iraq and goes onto note that, "the aftermath of the collapse of American power in Vietnam, and how they ran and left their agents, is noteworthy."
He talks of how the U.S. has a habit of cutting and running and implies we'll likely be cutting and running soon again.
The letter clearly lays out al-Zawahiri's long-term goal: Get the Americans out, bring an Islamic authority in and then take the war to Iraq's secular neighbors, before the ultimate clash with Israel.
He seems eerily patient — perhaps because he senses we are not.
He seems resolute. We seem divided.
It's not our troops he seems to doubt. It's the American people.
They are divided. They are angry. And al-Zawahiri is hopeful.
The negativism is feeding on itself and us. And al-Zawahiri is loving it.
No wonder that mom and dad reminded me that the biggest threat to their son isn't some other country on many days, the threat is this country.

Stop fucking moaning on about cutting and running! Of course cutting out now would be a bad move - the country is mucho fucked. People are more outraged by the bogus justifictaions for the war in the first place.
"You break it, you bought it."

yeh, but that anger over the justification is resulting in great amount of negativity...hence that article...
get over it...we cant turn back time....what do you want to happen? we cant leave iraq until we're ready to do so, and everyone acknowledges this except the protesters...hence what they are protesting is illogical and thus they wont be listend to.
Iraq is better now then it was with Saddam
and fine, maybe the justifications were wrong bc of bad intel...
BUT
alot of good is coming, and will continue to come, out of this situation...we just freed the Iraqis from an oppressive dictator...they will get to chose their OWN government...Iraq will be a proper nation in due time...maybe not next year, but in the near future, you will see that this war meant something

Yeah. It mean that a lot of fat old obscenely rich white men got to get even fatter and even richer and a lot of young kids got to die with their boots on.
"Bad intel" - fuck all the noise. Bush and cronies MADE the intel into what they wanted it to be.

yeh, but that anger over the justification is resulting in great amount of negativity...hence that article... .......... Iraq is better now then it was with Saddam ....... and fine, maybe the justifications were wrong bc of bad intel... 1 - you should always question the actions of those in authority who represent you. If they make a bad decision they must take the responsibility. If you follow an ethos of "can't change the past so let's not look back" then no-one would ever have to undertake responsibility and that's frightening 2 - Yes, but firstly remember this was not the reason the US went into Iraq, it became a convenient excuse. The original reason given was solely about WMD (i believe it was something far more sinister than trying to "be the good-guys" - but that's neither here nor there, the point is it wasn't about removing Saddam in the first place). And did it really take tens (probably hundreds) of thousand of lives to remove Maddass Hussein anyway? 3 - you're seriously living on cloud cuckoo-land if you actually believe that 3rd point

(spelling ?) BUT WE ALL BOUGHT IT when they made Powell stand up there and present it.. (except the ppl in intell KNEW IT WAS BOGUS.. all along) 3.) unless you work in intell, you just don;t know... 4.) iraq... oh we shall see what the outcome is... the planning was piss poor, ask the military.. I said it before.. the outcome will be more instability, civil war or an islamic state will come about... our military is as weak as ever due to leadership.. go ask someone enlisted.. or an officer.. 5.) I actually supported us going into afghanistan... 6.) BTW, I sat in a subway last week, next to a young soldier and his girlfriend.. he was 19.. he lost his leg.. there he sat... all of this - not worth it to me ! we cld have united with other countries with more diplomacy.. instead of acting unilaterally.. and arrogantly ! I see that kinda shit all the time in DC ! to hell with it ! I am outraged !
