I've been thinking bout it for ages to start learning the guitar but now i think i'm going to do it. i dont want to play anything proper like doing exams or any crap like that i just want to be able to strum away on my own to some oasis songs and stuff. How hard will it be to teach myself some basic stuff? What sort of guitar should i look to get, how much £? What oasis songs r the easiest to learn?
Cheers for any help

Buy a guitar for as much as you want to spend.
Get yourself a Oasis songbook.
Youll be playing most Oasis songs withing a few months if you practice hard enough.

Make sure you practice and make sure you have fun. Things will get frustrating at times, but have a good time!!!!!

How hard will it be? Depends on if you pick it up quick. Some people learn faster than others. It depends on what you put in. With guitar, it's really true that practicing makes you better.
How much to spend? If you've never played before, don't spend a ton of money. That way, if it turns out that guitar is not for you (and it isn't for everyone), you haven't thrown a ton of money at it. That said, the lowest priced guitar in the shop probably is the lowest priced for a reason. Ask someone at the store to help you choose, tell them what sort of sound you're looking for, and go from there.
Easy Oasis songs? Wonderwall, Songbird, Meaning of Soul, Champagne Supernova (minus the solo), To Be Someone, Morning Glory (acoustic, chord version - a la Noel at Earl's Court.) There's lots. That's one of the things I like best about Oasis, they have songs that aren't super tricky to learn. If you want to play all the elements, then they require more skill, but to get the basic rhythm down to sing over, a lot are quite simple.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to buy a basic guitar method-type book. They're useful to start off with, and they ought to explain things like tablature, which makes learning new songs WAY easier.

Just learn Wonderwall and The Drugs Dont Work (Ashcroft), go to a high school party, play both songs, get laid about six times.
