Hey gang...
I asked Wifey for an acoustic guitar for Christmas... my father-in-law plays the guitar an I'm gonna ask for lessons... the Oasis songs I want to learn to play the most are:
Cast No Shadow Little James Talk Tonight Morning Glory Guess God Thinks I'm Abel Live Forever
Any of you want to weigh in on some of the EASIER Oasis songs to learn for someone who has never picked up a guitar in his life (meaning me)
I know it will take me a long long time to learn how to play one of these songs but I am committed and really want to learn

SONGBIRD, FUCKING AWESOME! I would LOVE to be able to play that... just did some googling and found listed on many sites "Oasis, The Complete Songbook"... it says that the book is great for beginners and has every Oasis tune through Heathern Chemistry... does anyone recommend that book? BTW Wanking thanks a lot for the quick reply and encouragement! Christmas CAN NOT get here fast enough now!

Some of the chords in that book are wrong but when used in conjunction with the chords online, you can work them out for yourself. It's a good reference point. As for easy songs: Live Forever Wonderwall Cast No Shadow D'You Know What I Mean Pass Me Down The Wine Love Like A Bomb Songbird The Meaning Of Soul In reality most of the songs are pretty easy once you get the hang of them but some have tricky fingering for a beginner (Talk Tonight, Take Me Away, etc). Good luck!

Songbird is mega easy to learn.
First Oasis song I learned to play on acoustic guitar was Wonderwall.
Whatever is also fun to play on an acoustic.
Good Luck with the lessons and make sure to always have fun, no matter how hard it might get!!!!

Thanks alot all for your suggestions and encouragement... my father-in-law just under went double bypass surgery a few days ago... they told him that he can't do ANYTHING, including picking up a guitar for SIX WEEKS... (he plays every week in a Portuguese band)... so I'm sure that after the six weeks are up, which puts us just about after Christmas, he will rather enjoy giving me lessons, as will I enjoy receiving them! (And also it allows me to keep an eye on him to make sure he's not doing something he's not supposed to be doing) But I'll certainly keep you all updated with my progress... I can't wait!

Hope your father in law gets better soon. It will be a great holiday gift when you guys can each sit down with your six strings.

I guess Songbird is a good start, but you'll get bored of it very fast. The first song I learned to play well was Live Forever. The chord changes are slightly more difficult but it'll make you a lot better than Songbird would.
I should also point out that a lot of Noel's songs have the same chords...
Wonderwall Cast No Shadow D'You Know What I Mean? Whatever Talk Tonight

Since everybody said Songbird I'd say Pass Me Down The Wine.I have learned the song before but I compeltly forgot it now but I do remember it was pretty easy and those picking bits could help. BTW Don't bother with song books.Tabs sites such as Ultimate-Guitar.com and MxTabs.net can teach you alot of Oasis songs. And I mean ALOT. Don't Look Back In Anger can teach you alot of chords. C-G-Am-E-Fmaj7-G-C-Am-G Good luck on guitar.Once you learn it's a whole bunch of fun.
