Just play a D, but add a note on the first fret of the 6th string...
2 3 2 0 X 1
It works more or less the same with just a D though, so if you can't make it sound right using that, just play D...

i usually play it without the high e string. it's less of a hassle. but sometimes i use my thumb to play the low e.

I use the thumb as well and then I mute the 5th string with the tip of it (the thumb that is )

D/F#
2 3 2 0 X 2
This is the proper way to play D/F#. The D is for the D major chord, obviously, and the F# is the base note played in conjunction with the D major chord. I just use my thumb to play the bass note.

are you E.T. or something? i do have massive hands like, but its a gud way to play , cus it nearly always fades out the 5th string, i just though that was the way to play it, i though the thumb was against the rules, only been playin 6 months

I have stupidly long fingers so I can probably do that, then again I probably can't. So Dom, what's it like to be E.T? ;D

So Dom, what's it like to be E.T? ;D omg im soo annoyed, reli the work and effort i put in to get that chord spot on with no delay, weeks upon weeks, played their she goes and in my place sooo much, just to find out i could have simply used my thumb, not impressed, and if i can do it, anyone can, just do a wee min bar on the bottom 3 strings
