LEARN ON ACOUSTIC!!! your fingers get used to the heavier strings if you start on acoustic. (i started on classical- imagine how that must have felt)

I like my electric guitars, don't get me wrong but my acoustic kicks arse! Nothing beats a freshly strung acoustic guitar... i have never experianced anything nicer to play on... I love playing That's Entertainment on a freshly strung acoustic... as loud as you can

Depends on what you want to do and what motivates you. If you've got access to two or can sit in a store without getting kicked out, find out what floats your boat.
No sense in travis picking away if what you really want to do is make it cry and sing.
People ask me all the time, do you play acoustic or electric. I tell them if it's got six strings I play it. Do you eat the apple first or the orange first? Your call, 100%.

What is it better to get for my first guitar, electric or acoustic? Cheers get an acoustic, its a wider fret board than electric which means you will give your fingers a good stretch after a year or two on acoustic, then when you move to electric you'll fly fly FLY. ;D leanr chords my friend know every chord before playing lead.

My mate learnt straight from the oasis chord book! pick and strum and play what sounds good. play 6 hours a day til you can play the entire oasis library by heart. that's what i recommend... i am also insane. did i mention that?

as far as spending goes i dunno, but you shouldnt spend a lot if its your first time playing.
i learned from the beatles book it was my first book i was about seven or eight at the time,
but yah any oasis book too would do the trick too.
sometimes its too hard for people to learn by the book and go get thought the guitar. i suggest you get thought some chords first then start learning from the book.
