Lately I've been getting into some fights with my bandmates and it frustrates me that while I can see their point of view, they either fail to see or don't want to see my side of it.
Basically, I want the band tyo do something differnt. Right now we're a classic type punk band, in the vein of The Clash, The Stooges, The Damned, etc. I really have no problem with that. But the problem is I want us to move into other territories of music. Like the Clash did with "London Calling", "Sandinista", and "Combat Rock". Right now we just seem the typical rock band with most of the other bands in my city's music scene are either metal heads or poser punks. We don't dress "punk" but we play fast, loud, and have that fuck you attitude when we get on stage.
The rest of the band however wants to go with what's worked so far. But just about everyone else is doing the same thing we are. I want the band to start doing diferent things. Not be a band that's one of a million. The only bands who've really made a difference were the ones who were different at the time they came about. We're a really good band but just seem to blend in with everyone else. I want us to break from that view. Is that so bad?

What citys this mate? where dya live? Coz its like that in Birmingham near me. Poser punks, all singing with an american accent!!!
Do you write the tunes? If you do then you should start trying to write something original, dont take that the wrong way but, you know all you'll do is fade into the background if you dont. If you dont write the tunes i'd start writing my own stuff and put it on a eight track or something then make the band listen to it.

Well I am the main songwriter of the band. And to answer you're question, it's St. Louis, MO. Every band here that I've seen is either Nirvana wannabes, Metallica wannabes, or Blink-182 wannabes. It's sickening.

i work with my bassist on the songs- i write the music, he does the lyrics. i'm trying to write the next classic gem. nothing really special yet, even though i have a pretty good song down pat. just need to get the lyrics though. think sunday morning call.
but the thing is- i don't really want to be very oasis-y. i want the band to be everything and nothing at the same time. these songs are really influencing me right now- beach boys- wouldn't it be nice bruce- thunder road ccr- fortunate son zep- heartbreaker simon & garfunkel- america every who song from tommy to who are you band- the weight dylan- positively 4th street
you see where i'm coming from now, so when we record or do a gig, i'll send you guys links
