But the world wasn't aware of what his voice was becoming in 2004 unless you had tickets to the gig proper, considering there was no media at the time (other than shoddy bootlegs, of course) to indicate as such. I agree with the other bloke, Youtube made a huge difference. Well, influenced by YouTube or not, I still find it properly fascinating seeing how perceptions and common attitudes have changed

I still can't get enough of Liam on record. Live he can pull off a great show - but is a more inconsistent. He's older obviously and unfortunately its not the same as his 90's vocals. The acoustic stuff he did at start of BE tour was great too

Also, to add. A few people I know who were not massive Oasis fans at all thought Liam sounded good at the olympics a couple of years ago. He was singing a song that many would only know from the original recording, that's not bad 16 years on in an singer's book I reckon.

Youtube wasn't around, meaning it was much harder for people to really see the decline of his voice and compare to past performances. This would make a huge difference on our perception. If only Janet Jackson showed her nipple earlier (Yes, that malfunction inspired the creation of youtube)

He should ask Lemmy Kilmister for some tips how to take care of his voice.

I always hate it when people use the excuse of "Liam is older now". Being older is not an excuse to sound shitty. Of course you'll sound different when you're older, but that doesn't have to be bad if you take care of your voice. He's only 42. There are enough singers who are older and sound better. It's not an excuse.

interviewer : 'Did you feel Glastonbury was as bad as people said?'
Liam : 'People said I sang bad but I can't ever see that happening. Because I never sing bad.'
from NME 30/4/2005

It's not an excuse. Its not an excuse but it could be factor. Age, lifestyle, style of singing and just what sort of voice you are given biologically can all play a role individually or some of them collectively. Could Liam have protected his voice by staying in during the 90's, drinking mineral water and singing without the stance he uses? Probably but then would Liam have been Liam? And would you expect someone to change the way they live there life for your enjoyment? I think Liam has been smarter about the way he uses his voice these day's and has made a conscious effort to make it easier on himself. I think that showed on the acoustic sets and the uk tour.

U can gimme some examples where se does sound rubbish, but on the other hand I can give u the same amount of examples where he sounds spot on. Like the start of the last tour with BE and those acc performances were...nearly matiching his best during 90ties If u ask me.

His voice is finished unfortunately..he'll never get his pre 2002 voice back. The most I can see is him getting his 08/09..and still its unlikely.
His age isnt really an excuse though just look at McCartney. Nowadays people wont watch Oasis live because of his voice, they'll go for the atmosphere which will still blow any other band out of the water. They still have the songs, Liam just needs to do whats necessary to take care of his voice and get it back to its best.

Plenty of rockers in their 40s that still sound like they did when they were 25. People like Bono, Eddie Vedder, Michael Stipe and Thom Yorke spring to mind.

I can't listen to him. It's a combination of abuse and just singing differently. On DM and WTSMG, he wasn't doing John Lennon. Be Here Now was the start of that.
In the end, I guess it's all a matter of taste. The camps here are well defined and divided. There are Liam folks and Noel folks. I think Beady Eye's first album had a couple of good tunes, but the second was horrible. That's just me. I really liked Noel's solo album. That's just me. I respect the right of all of the Liam fans to have their own opinions.

Comparing people is incredibly difficult and often unfair because they are built differently. Some people get more colds than others etc.

I dont think its all about genes. Ok, he lost some vocal abilites because of age and lifestyle. But i still think that he is to affraid to sing and to go out of tune.
He is singing with his nose
He is trying to get his voice as deeper as possible and not even trying to sing normal. He is just affraid that his voice will be too thin and that he will go out of tune so he is not even trying anymore.
After all, Noel has same genes.

I know when Liam's singing badly if I find myself doing weird things with my throat whilst listening. Forgot how bad it was in 2005, fucking hell. Utterly unlistenable.
