No booze at the Brits Last updated 09 January 2003
The Brit Awards ceremony is to have a booze ban to try and put a stop to bad behaviour.
In the past, stars have been treated to gourmet meals and plied with alcohol throughout the ceremony.
But this year, guests will be asked to sit in auditorium style seating and will only be allowed to drink on arrival and at the after show party.
Organisers hope it will mean an end to celeb antics, which have been a highlight of ceremonies in the past, so that people can concentrate on the awards themselves.
The Brits has seen plenty of bad behaviour from the stars. In 1996, Jarvis Cocker ran on stage and wiggled his bum at the audience in protest at Michael Jackson's Jesus-like performance. In 1998, Danbert Nobacon from Chumbawamba threw a bucket of water over John Prescott's head - the group didn't agree with some of Labour's policies. And three years ago, Brandon Block staggered on stage holding a pair of chopsticks and started an argument with Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood who was trying to present an award. Ronnie threw a drink over Brandon who was dragged from the stage.
Performers, however, will be allowed to drink backstage.
This year's bash, which takes place at London's Earl's Court on February 20, has been moved to the afternoon so it can be televised and broadcast 'as live' later that evening
