This might be the most ludicrous question ever asked on here. how is it ludicrous. ye i kinda knew BHN would win it but they both have their qualities. if it was that ludicrous sotsog would have no votes so some actually agree with me. You must have known you'd be in the minority though, so why bother with this poll. BHN pisses all over anything on SOTSOG, with the exception of Gas Panic, Fuckin in the Bushes and Go Let it Out.

This might be the most ludicrous question ever asked on here. Which is why the voting is a landslide to BHN. As if anyone was ever in any doubt.

I'm a SOTSOG fan ! Include Let's all make believe, One way road & Carry us all and you've got yourself a classic Oasis album. Be here now, great but long ;-) Funny that you mentioned the 3 songs that are not on the album. Had we included a few BHN B sides too, you've also got yourself a classic Oasis album. Wait a minute, what I am I saying?? BHN already IS a classic Oasis album. The same cannot be said of SOTSOG. Go Let it Out and Gas Panic are the only 2 out-and-out classic Oasis songs on that album.

oasisdna thanks for the info on the recordings. As BHN is my all-time favourite album, I love to hear any information like this on how the album was conceived. As someone said earlier, this really is the Holy Grail for us to read this insight.
I can also understand why you won't leak these to the internet. Like you said, trust is more important than fame. Don't ever fold under pressure and stick to your guns.
Hopefully one day these recordings will see the light of day officially, when the BHN remastered version is finally released.
Quick question. Why wasn't I got the Fever done at Mustique?

I'd only want to see an Oasis Mk1 reform, with the original team back, including Owen Morris, Brian Conner, etc. and for them to try and recapture the magic they created in the 90's, rather than the trash we got from 2000 onwards.

Dig Out Your Soul is fine the way it is. As the worst album they ever did, yes it is.

I think The Beat Goes On is one of the best Beady Eye songs. Had that been the closer to DOYS instead of the dull Soldier On, it would have been a far better way to end the album, and Oasis career.

When you look at some of the songs that emerged after DOYS on both Beady Eye and HFB's that were around during the making of that last, utter shite album, it does make you wonder what the hell was going on.
If you compare Abbey Road, Beatles farewell album, particularly side B's brilliant, breathtaking final run of songs, from Golden Slumbers to The End, and then look at the final run of songs on DOYS, its depressing to see how Oasis ended their final album. Soldier On! What a song to end their career on, and the garbage that followed before it.
Whether Noel purposely sabotaged that last album because he wanted out, saving his best stuff for his solo career that was already planned in his mind, or whether he hadn't thought that far ahead, and couldn't get the songs he wanted on the last album because Liam wasn't around, or didn't want to sing them (which we are often led to believe by Noel), we'll never know.
Either way, its a sad album to end their career on. Even Let it Be was a better closer for The Beatles than this garbage.

Hello all ! I used to post here alot last year but got sidetracked by stuff and forgot how great this board is ! So I thought I'd make my return nice and easy- Which Oasis song is a favourite of yours and what makes it so special to you ? For me, It will always be "Some Might Say". Maybe I don't relate to the lyrics as much as other songs of theirs, But I LOVE the classic Oasis sound. Noel's guitars, Liam's awesome voice, Tony on drums, it's all so perfect ! Mine is Some Might Say too. For me that is the classic Oasis sound, and why I love all the other songs that followed on BHN which sound similar. IHITIK, The Fame, Stay Young, Step Out, I got the Fever would be my next in line after Some Might Say.

"Be here now" is my least favourite record by them. It reminds me of Michael Bay movies. Everything is loud, big, bright, constantly moving...exploding. Same as with a Michael Bay movie gers boring for me quite fast, altough the images are like described I feel the sane with Be here now. It was not a step forward after Morning Glory, more like loud stomping on the same spot, ruining the ground. Shame you didn't get BHN like I and many others do. I like your comparison with Michael Bay though, as I can see where you are coming from. I'd probably say BHN is more like an 80's Simpson/Bruckheimer/Tony Scott movie in that regard - Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II and Days of Thunder. Funny enough, those movies were made under the heavy influence of cocaine too from what I read, and all have the same adrenalin fuelled feel because of it. They are the visual equivalent to BHN. God, I love BHN even more now....

The problem with BHN wasn't their peers, Diana death or experimentation, the problem was the album itself. BHN was a huge missed oportunity, Noel hates it much because of this, it was supposed to be the album which would put Oasis up there with U2 in popularity, but everyone knows that there is a masterpiece there somewhere, but it is buried underneath the overproduction and overlong lenght of those songs, it's also too loud and there isn't that much variation on the songs. BHN is great, but it would have been so much better if Someone had the balls to tell Noel to edit the songs at the time. For the masses, to make this a crossover friendly album, yes I'd agree. It needed a less aggressive touch, toned down, some slower, softer numbers on there like Going Nowhere and Angel Child, and the song lengths shortening overall. But for me personally, as its my favourite album, I love the overblown, loud, long, epic feel to BHN, so I wouldn't want to change anything about it. Listening to BHN is like getting a cocaine fix without actually taking cocaine. It's one long pure adrenalin rush.

Had to stop at 7 as it's not that impressive that list, Hopefully a completion such as the above never sees the light of day I agree. That list is pretty shocking overall.

"Wasting" epic songs, and a third potential huge album on b-sides? I'd imagine that would be Noel's #1 answer if you asked him. Be Here Now is great to us fans, but it did essentially stop the Oasis power train. Or another point of view is that Princess Diana stopped the Oasis power train, which I agree with. Had some of the more popular B sides like The Masterplan, Going Nowhere and Stay Young been saved for BHN, I don't think it would have made much difference to Oasis popularity, once Britpop came crashing in a Paris tunnel to a sudden halt.

Back on topic with the idea, I think the best thing that could've happened after 1996 was for the band to take 1997 off, get focused, get well (wean off the cocaine, in other words), then start working on the third album late that year, and release it in May 1998. Then, go on an arena/stadium tour, while headlining some of the major festivals around the World, with singles being released all along the way, and their legacy in rock (and pop) history being cemented as one of the greats. Then from there, who knows? I imagine the fourth album would've been a lot like SOTSOG, but just with less of a sombre nature to it, since in this hypothetical situation, the band would've come out on the positive end of things. That's all hindsight now. It was never going to pan out that way. Back in 1996 Oasis were an unstoppable runaway train, gathering speed, chaos and mayhem along the way....a blazing fire that couldn't be sensibly controlled and put out safely. Too much drugs, too much partying, too much expectation, too much pressure on Creation and Oasis to release that third album...and on the back of the euphoria of Blair the 1997 General Election, the feel-good factor of Britpop was still in full swing during the making of BHN. No one could have predicted how an entire nation could change drastically overnight once Princess Di passed away. Had this happened while BHN was still being recorded, then who knows. Maybe the album would have stalled its release, no longer feeling the urgent pressure to release it any quicker. Maybe they would have taken some much needed time out, reasses the mood of the nation, and maybe tone down some of the songs, and opt for certain others instead. Personally I wouldn't change anything about that period. Oasis in 1996 and 1997 were HUGE, and the expectations surrounding the release of BHN is something I have not witnessed before or since, probably on par with the release of Sgt. Pepper all those years ago, even though I wasn't alive then. And BHN may have not met other people's expectations, but it certainly did mine. It's my favourite album of all time, so I wouldn't change any of it. 1997 - A glorious time when I can proudly say - I Was There Then!!

Carnation isn't an Oasis song, is it? No, it's a Jam cover, but it still works brilliantly as it has the same dark feel as SOTSOG and pisses over most of the other stuff they were producing at the time. I don't mind having a cover when it's as good as this one. Sorry mate, but that would be good enough for a B side only. Since when did Oasis start putting covers on their albums...? That's outrageous.

I appreciate your imagination to BHN, but at that time it's impossible to create slow songs, everybody in England and abroad was waiting for new WTSMG or DM. Can't imagine success of Who Feels Love? in 1997, they could have even less... success Why give the people what they want? Did the Beatles do that in the 60's? No. It's about doing something you can be proud of the 20/30 years. Not doing the same stuff, over and over. All they had to be in 1997/1998/1999 was be a little bit more creative. And I would say they did. Turning everything up to the max, huge overdubs of guitars, massive walls of deafening sound, and mammoth duration lengths make BHN a very unique album like no other before or since.

Oasis went from being the biggest and most important band in the world to sounding outdated and irrelevant within a month! It's was such a bizarre time. Oasis as well as imploding, were put in an impossible situation with Be Here Now. If they'd done MG mk2 they'd have been criticised for standing still. If they'd fully experimented they'd have been criticised for alienating fans. Therefore Noel thought bigger and heavier was the way to go. Sticking with the classic Oasis formula but expanding on it. For which they were criticised for Be Here Now has its flaws and I'm not saying it's perfect but there was literally nothing they could have put out in the summer of 97 which could have fully worked Funnily enough that's pretty much what Rolling Stone's 1997 Review said they had done, essentially making the same kind of album three times from DM-WTSMG-BHN. They still gave it four stars and a decent write up though I never understood how people could say those first 3 albums are the same. They are actually very different when you hear them now. DM - punkier, more raw, slightly unpolished feel to the songs, and a fairly slow, menacing tempo throughout the album. Liam was still discovering his most suitable range of vocals, while the lyrics also strongly hint at a band that had not yet made it. WTS - polished feel, the most commercially friendly sounding of all Oasis records, almost feels like a greatest hits album, and the one that crosses easiest over to the mainstream public, with songs like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger. You don't need to be an Oasis fan to like WTS. Even my Mum or Gran could listen to the majority of songs on that album. BHN - the most controversial album of all Oasis records, and the one that most often divides opinion. Either its too long, overblown and too loud, due to excess coke binges - or its epic, colossal, huge, Oasis finest hour, madferit, the soundtrack to driving extremely fast in your car, and partying extremely hard with your mates. The lyrics slap you in the face with their unashamed swaggering statements of being the biggest band in the world....and at that magical moment in time, they truly were!

I Like 'HeathenChemistry'
Deal with it, people. Its a damn sight better than DOYS and DBTT, that's for sure, and probably on par with SOTSOG.
