I've noticed lately that parents get really nervous/upset when sex is on TV, because they say their children are too young to be seeing stuff like that on Television. Then they call and complain to the FCC (which they love it when people complain because then they supposedly serve a purpose). Yet, the same parents watch shows like "24" and other violent shows and don't say "Boo" to it. Seems to me, that many adults could care less if their children watch guys get their brains splattered against the wall, but freak out when people are making-out/having sex. This to me is VERY hypocritical. So its ok for our children to go out and kill people, but my god, if they have sex with someone, they should be in big trouble.

Well I don't watch 24 and I don't know what's usually on it but I'd imagine the violence is mostly guns and bombs and stuff so what are the odds of most kids repeating that vs. sexual acts? Another thing is that seeing sex acted out on normal programs might lead to them getting into porn when they're older, whereas with violence . . . what's that gonna lead to? Watching WWE videos? And besides, most kids that just sit in front of the tv all the time are too fat and lazy to get in a fight to begin with!

endless argument this.
i think its good that parents want their children not to see too many sex/violence. but most of them overreact.
if i had children id let them watch the sex scenes in movies, but not real porno.
anyway, im always in charge of the remote, so i decide. period

i agree totally with the violence and the hypocracy, but i think parents fear that sex may come across as somethin causal, many fear a huge STD crisis or a hugh population explosion. and as for violence i think after about 12/13 years old many have a grip on wats the craic, all i no is i have bruises from my 4 year old nefhew after he watched powerrangers, the evil wee bastard lol

in america you have the RIGHT TO FREE SPEECH. that means, in my books, that if you don't like what you're seeing, SWITCH THE FUCKING CHANNEL. or are these certain americans lazier than the rest of them?

You know what gets me? In england you're allowed to have sex when you're 16 and have a kid, right? But you've got to wait till you're 18 before you can watch / buy porn??? Dont worry, im 23 and over it now but, you know. Its just daft!!

Very old thread, but it seems very interesting. I really don't see the problem with kids exposed to sex(at least when it's not too graphic). Do you really think a 3rd grader is going to try to bang his or her class mates? No. I don't think violence matters that much either. I was exposed to all that and I'm not violent at all. Plus kids are going to have sex when they grow up anyway.

Reading the title I thought this would be a thread about how porn has become more and more violent in the past few years.

Violence vs Sex would be a killer title for a mediocre punk rock song.

Also, Christ times were indeed different 15 (!) years ago.
