Both did a great job playing to their strengths
Noel wrote a bunch of great songs, tried different things, sold more albums, even has a few hundred thousands more monthly listeners in Spotify, but his music and actitude does not appeal so much to the youngsters. In many ways he is a middle-aged man (and he is at peace with it)
Liam carried the Oasis torch, sold stadiums, headlined festivals and connected with the new generatión as no one else. He also got his voice back at his best, released 3 solid albums, and wrote his best song ever with 'Bold'
Each fan will prefer one or the other depending on taste. The songwriting aspect has always been the main reason I got into Oasis, so I am more a Noel fan, but I think nobody can complain

My rankings vary by day, but though it probably doesn’t count for this thread my favourite of the ‘interim’ oasis albums is almost certainly BE. Incredibly underrated. I love it

Easily Noel Liam has some decent songs but only 2 I would rate as being up there with the greats( Once and One of Us) His albums are too manufactured for my taste. His huge live success is down to him being Liam and singing Oasis. All of Noel's albums, for better or worse have a creative side that makes me enjoy them on a level that I don't get out of Liam's.

Looks from the poll results - it’s basically a draw/tie.
And I’d argue that’s bang on. And partially why now was right for Oasis, where both have equal currency, and it’s reiterated what each brings.

I really now pretend liam solo albums never existed;
i just never listen to them, dont have any desire to, which is pretty weird because that's not the case for the rest of the gallagher's discography; I go back to Beady Eye sometimes and noel's solo records as well.
Liam "solo" career is not that solo anyway, its more like a collective writing and touring with a pretty face. it's a "solo" career for marketing purposes.
It just cant be compared to Noel's.

I love his three solo albums, and they’d be near the top of my all time Gallagher discography!

I've listened to Liam's albums way more tbh.
I checked out of Noel's solo career sometime ago.

I on the other hand see Noel's solo career as a wet firecracker. In 2009 there were rumors that a Noel solo album might be better than the first two Oasis records and that the world would bow at his feet proving how brilliant he was and how much he didn't need Liam. The reality was a solo career far below expectations. The arrangements that I personally appreciate even more than his songs are not thanks to Noel but to his producers and collaborators. In these years he managed to release some of the worst songs of his career and offered very "unnatural" live shows and didn't even have much turnout at concerts: I remember that in 2009 it was said that he would fill stadiums everywhere. Liam on the other hand half got help, the other half got involved in writing the songs and even in the arrangements. He took much more care of his voice, and sold records and concerts like no one would have ever expected. I repeat, even Noel said that Liam solo did better than him.

Sometimes they need cleaning 🤣😉 I happen to think WBTM onward is a dreadful period of releases from Noel. With the exception of 3-4 tunes, I find it to be essentially unlistenable or lounge/elevator music and much prefer Liam’s output; to each their own, but stfu insinuating the alternative opinion is wrong.

The best part of Liam’s solo for me was him actually singing again and maintaining his voice making the live shows awesome and the oasis b-sides changing up his setlists. But you can’t really compare the 2 solo careers. To say Liam only half got help is a far stretch. He had almost all of his tunes written for him. And seemed to have the least involvement on COYK and it sounds like it. I still prefer Liam’s solo to Noel’s but mainly bc of his live shows and keeping that oasis flame going especially when he had bonehead involved

A singer who occasionally writes songs (as he himself admits) While Noel is a songwriter in his own right. But ultimately Noel went into decline compared to what people were predicting for him in 2009. While Liam managed to build something truly great. In the end Noel didn't add anything better than what he had given with Oasis. Liam, on the other hand, emerged enormously and was able to emotionally involve thousands of people, especially the new generations.

Liam was selling out Knebworth. Noel was supporting Garbage. Enough said!

Liam sold out knebworth on the strength and back of oasis tunes written by Noel, not his solo work. I love Liam but this is a fact.

The overwhelmingly positive reception/reaction to his solo material was absolutely a factor in him being able to play Knebworth. NGHFBs nor Beady Eye could’ve sniffed it, even if/when playing Oasis songs.

I guess it depends on your definition of success. To me success is producing work you’re proud of, that exemplifies your point of view, and challenges you as an artist. I don’t think Liam is under any illusions about the longevity or personal connection to the majority of his solo work, hence why he’s willing to leave it in the dust for oasis. Compare that to Noel, who even if you find his solo work boring, is obviously very connected to what he’s creating. Difference between an artist and a performer perhaps, which is why they are not really comparable but two halves that are better together.

One is a soloist, the other is just doing theatre, recreating something thought by someone else; Each to their own, its not music for me, its a show, its a play. Bar half of the first solo album, Liam Gallagher's career is kinda fake if you thing musician. If you think show, its different. But i'm with you on the fact that noel's career is going the wrong way, I rate the 1st record as good as Oasis albums, CY is meh meh, WBTM was a bold move but lacks two tunes, the EP were great and CS is kind of a miss. All in all, both could have done things better and differently, but Noel still wins.

Anyway, on the army, interesting video on why you need 3+ people on songwriting credits (think of the main singles from his records : Wall of Glass, Shockwave, one of us, Diamond in the Dark, Everything's Electric, Better Days...) and why artists get credited on songs they didnt write ; It does apply to Liam Gallagher is some aspects (especially the why he's credited on all songs despite not writing shit)
