Haven’t done one of these threads for awhile. Let’s see how we all stack up. I think I’m fairly close to conventional wisdom, though.
The holy trilogy are set in stone, whereas fourth through to sixth are fairly interchangeable. Heathen Chemistry, stellar singles aside, is a fairly poor album but does have its moments.

PS: I would have preferred WTSMG to have also contained Acquiesce and Headshrinker instead of the two fragments of The Swamp Song
For SOTSOG I would have wanted at least DYKWIM instead of PYMIYM..... I would have taken 2 or 3 songs from the BHN album and inserted them into Standing, still releasing it in 2000 but as the third album.

So this is based on my average song ratings. Although I'd perhaps tweak the overall scores a little to better reflect my thoughts on the albums as a whole the order is still the same.

x) The Masterplan - 8.4/10
3) Be Here Now - 7.7/10*
4) Dig Out Your Soul - 7.5/10
5) Standing On the Shoulders of Giants - 7.2/10
6) Don't Believe the Truth - 7.1/10
7) Heathen Chemistry - 6.8/10
*This score excludes interludes and outros

I find it bizarre that Heathen Chemistry is so hated on this forum when it has the best singles from any Oasis album post BHN. OK there is some guff in there but I do feel that the singles drag it up ahead of DOYS.

I have no desire to listen to Hung In a Bad Place, Force of Nature, She is Love, Probably All in The Mind or Better Man. That's half the album. Singles and BOADC are great, but nope, I'd still hear other albums rather than that one. |
