What's most impressive is Live Forever being highest up there. Would have bet on it being Wonderwall, the obvious and boring choice, but good going for probably the song that represents Oasis best. Id attribute that to it being on DM, given the reissue. Its by far the best known song on that album, so will have gotten onto a fair few Spotify playlists. As sometimes playlists showcase the most popular music, and a song is chosen to sort of “represent” an album. In addition its sort of, alongside DLBIA, the one that really sums up how people feel about it. With that hook “you and I are gonna live forever”, now theyre back it almost comes off as summing up Liam and Noel.

Maybe dumb question, but does it had already happened than a reedition album become number one again 30 years after (or decades...)? Yes, the 2010 "Exile on Main St." reissue reached #1 for instance, as well as the 2020 reissue of "Goats head soup". Sgt Peppers in 2017 too

Hopefully live forever can hold on for #9. Seems a bug ask though

Oasis continue to hold both the No.1 and No.2 spots in the albums chart this week with Definitely Maybe, which leads the way with 38,155 sales, and Time Flies – 1994-2009, which follows behind with 18,353 sales. Definitely Maybe has 25,656 sales from its physical release, whilst 10,993 units account for streams and 1,506 sales are derived from downloads. Sabrina Carpenter sits at No.3 with Short N’ Sweet (17,876 sales), whilst Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ Wild God (13,402 sales) and Oasis’ (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? (12,253 sales) complete the Top 5. Meanwhile, Carpenter continues to set the singles chart ablaze, occupying the top 3 spots with Taste (41,620 sales), Please Please Please (28,330 sales) and Espresso (27,846 sales). Chappell Roan sits in fourth place with Good Luck, Babe! (24,164 sales), whilst Eilish rounds off the Top 5 with Birds Of A Feather (23,307 sales). Music Week What I find impressive is that even if you took its physical sales away, DM would still be at #3. Just hope that Time Flies can hold on to #2 above Sabrina Carpenter, as there’s less than 500 units between them now. Will be interesting to see how high a single can chart this week. Highest is gonna be DLBIA or LF, would be cool if either made the top 10. I'm afraid Carpenter will overtake TF, but I hope Morning Glory can take 4th spot over Nick Cave, 1200 units apart now.

Absolutely mad that Live Forever has achieved a new peak in the singles chart after 30 years!
I’ve always been engrained in me that it reached 10 and it was their first top 10 single, now it’s done 2 places better. Crazy times we’re living in.
Imagine someone waking from a 30 year coma and you’d explain Live Forever is 8 in the singles chart and Definitely Maybe is 1 on the albums chart😂

A reissue, thats otherworldly. Didn’t BE sell 35k in its first week in 2013?

What does the average number one album get these days, anyone know where to find the figures say for weekly sales of albums for the current year?

I know it's a different band but I think all this recent success and the sheer amount of people who wanted tickets for Oasis makes Beady Eye's lack of popularity even more embarrassing if I'm honest. I say that as a fan of Beady Eye. Even with 2 decent albums you'd expect to keep 10% of the fans of Oasis. They were probably at about 1%

No chance this goes anywhere near the Billboard 200. Especially not with how streaming dominant things are these days. Even so, I don't think this reissue has moved more than 10,000 - 20,000 units stateside. Not enough to make a dent unfortunately. Wonderwall, Supernova, and Don't Look Back in Anger (!) all got minor streaming boosts in America for several days in the wake of the reunion news (hung out in the 100-200 rank of most streamed daily songs on Spotify/Apple Music) but nothing off of Definitely Maybe. That's all but ended now anyway. Feels like the news came and went for the most part here.

What does the average number one album get these days, anyone know where to find the figures say for weekly sales of albums for the current year? It's the third highest #1 entry of the year behind Taylor Swift (270k), Sabrina Carpenter (89k) and Billie Eilish (67k) The closests behind are Taylor's second week (49k) and Dua Lipa (46k), then only Eminem and another Taylor Swift week broke 40k this year

Definitely Maybe sold about 5500/6000 copies last week in the US. Maybe some 50k pure sales around the world?
