Are there many times they HAVEN'T used pitch correction on a fully produced track since around SOTSOG? Noel's used it on his voice all the time since then (which has occasionally slightly annoyed me on the first and last NGHFB albums). It's harder for me to identify with Liam and I haven't followed his solo career as closely, but I'm pretty sure it's there on the John Squire collab tracks too. As I said, it's an industry standard now, so I imagine it's on every album by anyone, however I do not believe that it is needed on every track. So I don't like that the music industry relies on it so heavily. That said, I like you, am more of a Noel guy. I much prefer his solo career. But in fairness to Liam, he is quite an accurate vocalist without autotune. This video was very honest about his voice with and without autotune, and how to tell the difference. I'm sure it's used at times to hit notes he cannot do, but these days it's used on all albums ever as a general run in the industry, and that's what I don't like, especially given what vocalists like Liam and other more naturally talented vocalists are able to do without it. Its a great in depth video indeed. Autotune can be a good tool, if it keeps the original recording as true as possible i'd say; Like really correct a BIG singing mistake in the studio. As for every tool, it needs to be used with caution as to not completely robotize the original take. That's exactly what Liam did not do on his solo record and those "live" TV performances. It's a shame, because it completely hides Liam's vocals strengh, and the render is an AI Liam. A rock n roll singer has imperfections and that is what makes them unique. They used it less on the squire album, the vocals are much much better. But all those TV performance are just laughable, its clearly not a good job. They Taylor swifted him, and i have a feeling he finally understood that it was not the best of ideas.

There are rough nuances that Liam's solo albums lack. The same thing happened with Miley Cyrus (who I personally consider one of the best female rock voices ever). A few years ago she had her vocal cords operated on and after the operation she brought out an incredible rock vocal texture. On his albums many rough elements of his voice do not exist. While live it has a completely different flavour.

People are clinging on to that "November" tweet like it's the last life preserver on the Titanic... And the result will probably be the same as those who went in to the water with a life preserver.

Probably only a matter of time before the back catalogues of Oasis or The Beatles are remixed to autotune the vocals and give them that robotic "modern" sound the record companies think the younger generation needs.

As long as the "original" are in charge it wont happen. Noel wont let that happen i think. And in the Beatles camps, Giles Martin is on a real mission to keep the original spirit alive. The whole Beatles wives, sons and daughters are behind him, the legacy is safe for now. The remixes are well done. The minute its sold to others you bet they'll add rappers and twerkers though

I wouldn't think Oasis would do that but Where Did It All Go Wrong has some suspicious vocal parts and I'm absolutely convinced Liam's voice is altered on record, as it clearly was in that For What It's Worth video. He sounds way too polished on this one or on Now That I Found You or even Keep The Dream Alive. As for the Beatles, I really hate how Now and Then sounds, apart from Lennon's voice obviously. The rest is pretty bland, the drums don't have Ringo's signature sound. There's a rawness that existed in the Beatles catalogue that isn't on that song. Even Free as a Bird and Real Love got closer to it than Now and Then. Of course, all of that doesn't mean they would do it for older material but I wouldn't put it past them.

Now and Then wasnt really what i had in mind, i'm talking more about the other releases Giles Martin did from the 60s album. Those have the "respect" of the original work. now and then is not good indeed, but its and oddity, just like Free as bird or real love. they are a weird reinvention of what could have been and that's almost never good, although i really like Free as bird or real love. Oasis did use autotune on their record, but not the extent as Liam solo records. Liam snarls was preserved, and it gave a more organic feeling. Liam solo record sound completely different;

Polished vocals doesn’t mean auto tune … Owen morris had a trick for Liam but would never disclose it .. but there’s a load of double track and reverb involved and slight delay .. autotune is a strange tool to use for some one like Liam as all it tends to do is drag off key words into sync with the key and you can hear when it pulls the words usually . I never hear that with Liam

Autotune did make things easier though; Pitch correction and autotuning the way we are thinking about are two different things too: autotune will correct a take the same way for all notes and leave a metallic sound, and the render will be robotic. adjusting a few notes one by one, adding EQ, reverb is totally different. Anyone could already do it on cubase for free in 1999; Its pretty obvious that after BHN the autotune was widely used by Oasis, but i'd say in a smart way. Before that, morris used a Eventide DSP4000 So basically, the tool was used to correct the biggest mistakes, but keeping the "true" performance, even with imperfection in notes or tempo. A recording is essentially fake anyway, its just a matter of how much fakeness you add to it. Even amps and electric guitars are fake in a way. the sound is not real, its produced by a machine. to me: Oasis post BHN : SOTSOG / HC / DBtt - level of fakeness on voices 70% Oasis DOYS: level of fakeness on voices 65% Liam solo records: level of fakeness on voice 250%
