Fuck it, if there’s going to be three guitarists in Oasis let’s have TWO drummers. 🥁 🪘 As long as they don’t let Genen Gallagher playing at the reunion gigs next year I’ll be fine… Gene to guest on kazoo. Tommy DJing Irish country and western music. Paul manning the pie stall.

I don’t know how many times I’ve argued with my American friends from grade school through to grad school that Oasis are a massive band. I think the argument has finally been settled. Oasis Live ‘25.

I can’t say how I know this but I am close to certain it won’t be Chris on drums, so I can defo believe the Zak story.

Well musicians, you know, not just the guy there who can play 4 bar chords (but is really likeable i give you that) Bonehead just playing barre chords is what gave Oasis their wall of sound. It's also what made Liam (solo) sound a ton better live once he was introduced fully.

Well musicians, you know, not just the guy there who can play 4 bar chords (but is really likeable i give you that) There's no need to be a showoff guitar wanker like John Mayer to play an Oasis track. Noel's simple lines and cowboy chords plus Bonehead's wall of sound is what made them special. That's the correct recipe.

And pretty sure Noel is on record as saying Bonehead was the best musician in that band originally. Gem and Andy are brilliant musicians and all of them bring their own unique style. For Oasis in the 90s, Bonehead's thing worked. And if anybody saw Liam solo without Bonehead, and then compared him to when Bonehead was there, the difference is clear too for those old songs.

I think there might be something to this Starkey thing.
News articles about it. Then he posts an instagram story the same day. Liam posts a Ringo reference.
It'll be surprise to me. Sharrock was the last Oasis drummer, played with BE and Noel. It would be a pretty seamless transition for him. He's been playing Oasis songs for the last 15-16 years.

1 - I think Sharrock is nailed on. A source of mine who shared some info (they will remain nameless) told me Sharrock is in and I believe that, unless something has changed. 2 - For me, Zak was too slow. I think Zak is very proficient but just didn't suit the Oasis sound IMO. Good in The Who but I don't know why it just didn't work. All of them gigs on the DBTT tour were plodding and I think the only difference between that tour and all the other 2.0 tours, it was Zak who was the difference maker. Couldn't agree more. Put on a live version of Morning Glory with Zak on drums and then compare it to the version with Steve White in 2001 at the Greek. It's not close - White buries Starkey. Do the same thing with Rock n Roll Star with Zak followed by Chris Sharrock. Sharrock is way better. I notice that since Zak tends to play slower it makes Liam's lack of sustain more noticeable, too. Interesting aspects, I just did the comparison and both Alan and Steve play the basic morning glory beat with that little roll on the snare - neither Zak (very plodding) nor Chris do that, that's why both sound much less powerful on Morning Glory. I know how to hold a basic beat on a drum, but nowhere near somewhere where I would call myself a drummer, so wondering if it's really the skills and technical abilities or just personal style and preference? Would definitely prefer Alan on drums for the gigs next summer.

First time I saw Liam solo was on his first tour at the Barrowlands. He did a few solo songs first with his usual band and then Bonehead came out to play on the Oasis stuff. It was honestly like night and day.

97 people need to change their votes. Still can’t quite believe it’s happening 🙃 I'm the same, just seems so surreal. For ages i just wanted Oasis back together, still can't believe it. Plus the tour. IF the rumours about an album are true then jesus thats bloody amazing. I cant believe there will be a new album BUT i'm sure Noels got a ton of songs which he knows would suit Liam much better. But roll on next year, hope its not a one off tour but right now happy as hell

If they play NYC/Boston, I could see the crowd being like 20-30% hardcore fans from the UK who've flown over. I feel like even the management themselves underestimated the demand. Some tabloid said a good 14 million tried to get tickets. Croke Park itself had a half million in the queue - 1% of the population of Ireland. The rumour i've heard i've is MetLife in New Jersey. If (and it's a big if) it happens then i'm planning to go across with the other half. Planning to propose next year either way, either in NYC or Greece. As an aside, it still doesn't feel real that they're back.

Noel's simple lines and cowboy chords plus Bonehead's wall of sound is what made them special. That's the correct recipe. i'm being the devil's advocate here to reconsider history : I prefer Gem. its not about being a guitar hero (which i despise to be honest), its about having the magic touch, adding your own style. Bonehead sure did a good wall of sound, he can play... but the wall of sounds was a band emerging from the early days, a collective invention, not a bonehead invention. The "Oasis sound" was a band sound, not a Bonehead sound. Even tony and Guigsy are part of the early Oasis sound, with his basic drumming and bass (which again can be great, if there is a personality behind it); Pre-dM recordings are a testimony that the sound wasn't invented yet, by anyone; The 30th anniversary release is also a testimony; It seems to have really emerged around DM recordings, with Owen Morris mixes pushing the rhythm guitar to the mas. In the 1993 King Tuts Wah Wah Hut videos, you barely hear Bonehead and he's is playing a strat ! We are a very far from the Epiphone & Marshall set to 11. Same for All around the world at boardwalk, its very calm and quiet and Bonehead is playing barred chords ! Noel is too... You hear more MCCarroll and Guigsy in 93, and they slowly disappear in early 94. Before that, the sound is very hollow in the guitar rhythm parts and the early Oasis sounds is more bass and drums driven; with quiet lead parts from Noel as well. Is there really a big difference between mustique demos (all Noel's guitars) and the final BHN (with bonehead) ? Not really. His legacy is way overrated if you ask me, but that doesn't mean he was not part of it, he was, in a collective way. He's tight and on time, that's for sure, and bands need that. He's guy holding the hammer traditional style, Gem is the guy inventing a new way to use the hammer. Maybe Bonehead improved Liam's band though, but they started from way, way down below, so that was not too hard

Said first time he saw Liam he couldn't put his finger on it - the band weren't crap, but something was missing etc. Then when he saw LG with Bonehead, like you say, just a night and day difference. It adds so much beef to those songs.

That's not to say I prefer him over Gem. They both have unique styles and bring excellence individually IMO.

Both guitars pushed upfront, even Noel's, and drums ans bass slowly disappearing. Who made that decision ? Probably a band decision, with the help of DM producers. Something definitely happened overnight. Maybe with those tedious recordings they heard that had to push the distortion and guitar levels up.

Honestly I think the best case scenario will be three guitarists on stage.
Bonehead playing his barre chords. Noel playing open chords and picking out his melodies and some lead lines, and Gem doing a lot of the riffs and solos.
It should make the band sound massive.
Just need to make sure the tempos are good and not too slow!

They might have decided to speed things up a bit for DoyS tour. I’m not sure. But I don’t think Zak is to blame for slow tempo songs! For what it’s worth, Chris would be my preferred choice!

Of course not, noel decides the tempo. no way the guy who just entered the band decides but playing to a click track live ? Didnt know that, feels a bit silly, but noel being more and more insecure with his guitar playing... makes sense. To me if a drummer cant keep the tempo live or remember the correct tempo, its time to get a new one.

Ah when you’ve got loops and samples and stuff being fired off live it’s much easier if you’re working to a click track.
