Does anyone have any tips on how to get a good “home cinema” sound for your TV without spending thousands and filling your living room with speakers? I’ve got a Sonos sound bar on my TV with two Sonos 1 speakers configured as the surround sound bit. The sound bar costs a bloody fortune but I got a used one from eBay for a couple hundred quid. The 1s are circa £150 each. That’s still three speakers to achieve it though so probably not what you are looking for! Sound is awesome though.

I had started to think that a soundbar augmented with two speakers might be the way to go. It's my Dad who's most resistent to crowding the living room with speakers (although, apparently, his three electric guitars, two amps, and electric piano get a pass! ). Was there a period when you just had the soundbar? And, if so, how did that sound?
Because we've been trialling a new soundbar for the last few weeks, and we've got a couple of months to make our minds up whether we want to keep it or not. It's definitely a step up from our existing soundbar in lots of ways, but we're both having problems with the speech frequencies. You don't need much volume at all before voices start to sound harsh, like the mid-frequencies are getting into your skull and rattling around in there whenever someone emphasises their words, rather than just hovering nicely on the air between the TV and our ear drums. We've been wondering why this is, when in cinemas the sound is cranked right up and yet, rather than grating on you, the loudness only immerses you more in the film. My Dad reasons that it's because we're sat a lot closer to the speakers than in a cinema, and the air pressure and all that (I'm not technically minded, I'm afraid). But I wonder whether a soundbar on its own has enough firepower to give you a solid sound. Our new machine does a terrific job with film scores and external noises, but film and TV dialogue seems to stretch its capabilities. Do you think some extra speakers could solve that issue?? Thanks for getting back to us. I kind of hoped you'd reply, if no one else did, because I remember you offering lots of tips when me and my Dad were contemplating investing in a hi-fi set to play vinyl a few years back.

I’m not very technical either when it comes to sound! But aye, I would think there are lots of factors that will influence the sound from the technical stuff like the spec of your TV and the speakers to the shape of your room, thickness of your walls, whether you have carpet or wooden floors etc etc. I think your dad is correct re the cinema though. Cinemas will be proper sound-proofed so are a really sterile atmosphere compared to your average living room. Everyone’s ears are different too of course! I actually had just the two Play 1s before I had the sound bar. Didn’t have them on the tv at first - just had them in a pair to play music through them when I got the sound bar I reconfigure them to be the surround sound speakers. I think with the Sonos soundbar anyway you could definitely have it on its own and still get awesome sound from it fir films and tv which would be a very similar to having the surrounds.

Heatwave is coming. Let's get easy and don't melt. It's been warm today here even though there hasn't been much sun around. The weather's not one thing or the other these days due to climate change which really worries me.

Being the animal & wildlife lover I really hate animal abusers & what's happening with our wildlife around the world with nearly every animal endangered or in decline. They reckon that polar bears (beautiful creatures) will be gone by 2021. A bit of good news about tigers, they're numbers are on the increase.

Ricky Martin's She Bangs English translated into many languages then back to English....tomato hangovers aplenty. "Well"
Call me and say your name All the same You blown the fuse, I'm out now Bama is like a bomb, yeah baby
Call me and tell me your phone number He changes his face like a zodiac sign You play now, get your heart out Like a barrel when you drink
When this lady is by my side We want to shake this living city I want to make him suffer Unless he pushes me Because he followed the path he was leading He speaks like a wanderer
He was stunned, stunned My goodness When it moves, it moves I'm crazy Because it looks like a flower But it's like a bee Like all girls in history
He was stunned, stunned I've lost all the way Nobody looks good That reminds me Woman is one thing
Call me and say your name I mean your jewelry The rap star loves diamond cards Yes darling
Tell me, tell me a story You will feed me like two pairs of shoes We played and took them home Baby come on
When love seems like a crime You'll keep me closed for a lifetime I take time to smile Think about your skin and heart rate
Tomato, hangover My goodness If he goes, he goes I'm crazy Because it looks like a flower But it will be like a bee Like all girls in history
Tomato, hangover I've lost all the way Nobody looks good That reminds me Woman is one thing
When this lady is on my side We want to shake this living city It bothers me Unless he pushes me Because he followed the path he led He speaks like a wanderer
Tomato, hangover My goodness When it moves, it moves I'm crazy Because it looks like a flower But it's like a bee Like all girls in history
Tomato, hangover I am confused about the way forward Nobody looks good That reminds me Woman is one thing
Tomato, hangover Run run Tomato, hangover Run run

As much as I hate the Tories & this useless Government they have done something right for once. They have banned using wild animals in circuses good it's about time. So I'll give them that. Mind you, it's now banned in the UK anyway but in England it came into force in January this year.
