Yo carlober ! Whose is the dark Epiphone Riviera that Gem plays for RnR Star and CS on the DBTT tours. Is it Noel's or his? Haven't seen it recently but it's such a great guitar. I can't figure out how to post screenshots here lol but I'm sure you know which one I mean. That's a bit of a mystery I still haven't been able to solve. It is either a late '60s Riviera or a Japanese Elitist reissue. It looks suspiciously similar to the one that Noel is holding in this photo by Markus Klinko (is it from 2000? 2001?). I've never seen Noel playing this one, so it might be Gem's but who knows! My bet is on the late 60s. I have a japanese elite riviera and Gem or Noels Riviera with the minihumbucker seems to have more of a walnut, brownish tint than the elitist.

Everyone knows the story of the Sunburst Les Paul that Johnny Marr lent Noel in January 1994 – and never got back! But fewer are aware of Johnny’s Flying V: Noel is said to have used it for recording Slide Away and Cigarettes & Alcohol during the Definitely Maybe sessions at Monnow Valley. With the guitar currently up for auction at Sotheby’s (and the release of the Monnow Valley versions), I’ve decided it’s time to finish the dedicated page that has been sitting in drafts for a few months. NEW PAGE: Gibson Flying V (1980)By the way, there's a curious anecdote about this guitar that involves yours truly In 2019, when Johnny Marr handed the Flying V to a dealer for sale, the guitar’s connection to Oasis wasn’t mentioned. Johnny likely forgot that he had lent the guitar to Noel 25 years earlier!
I immediately recognized the Flying V as the one Noel played at Monnow Valley, so I contacted the unaware dealer to inform him about its history. His first reaction was... well, unexpected I've written a very short post about this story if you're interested: thechiefsguitars.com/2024/09/05/johnny-marrs-gibson-flying-v/

What equipment would Noel have used during the gig at the Tramway in 94? The Marshall and the Wem or did he have the Orange head and cab by that point? I've always wanted to recreate his tone from that gig, it's fucking heavenly

does anyone know what year the classic j-150 was from? So his signature sunburst model made its first "appearance" in the Little By Little video, circa 2002, but not sure we know what year Noel got his. The first year the J-150 was available was indeed in 1999 and produced until 2005. He also has a blonde J-150 which has shown up a lot recently live, no idea how long he's had it or what year. The J-150 was supposed to be a cheaper version of the J-200, but Noel's signature re-issue is $8-10K now on Reverb. There's footage of him playing Wonderwall for the first time backstage at Glastonbury in 1995 on what appears to be a blond J-200 and there's a short video of him showing Sir George Martin how he wrote Wonderwall which is likely before 1999, given how young Noel looks -- don't know if it's a J-200, but looks like it.

Nice to see that the Epiphone EJ200 is a 1992 model as I believed. Apparently 1992 was a sort of pre-production year for the EJ-200 and they have a few different features from regular, later production models.

It’s been a long and busy month, but now it’s time for some updates on the website. Nothing really major, but there are definitely a few interesting tidbits to share!
UPDATED PAGES:Three guitars were auctioned last month by Sotheby’s, and their pages on the website have been updated accordingly. These guitars include the Supersonic Epiphone Les Paul, Johnny Marr’s Flying V, and the early ’70s hollow-bodied EA-250. A couple of fans pointed out that this Gretsch was not a Tennessean but a Country Gentleman model, and they are indeed right! Also, I had forgotten about these backstories: allegedly, the guitar was owned by John Squire, and Noel wrote Live Forever and recorded Married With Children on it! After careful examination, involving detailed analysis of grainy old photos (I love this kind of stuff!), I believe I have managed to identify the correct model of the bridge pickup on the famous Gibson Les Paul Burst conversion, also known as “Johnny’s old one.” There has been an update regarding Gem’s recent live usage of the Tahitian Coral Stratocaster and the Firemist Silver Telecaster. Additionally, Noel played the white Nash Jazzmaster from the Who Built the Moon? era during the July 2024 Asian dates. Last but not least: more details about the Gibson SG ’61 Reissue and one of the Les Pauls – both used during the early HFB rehearsals in Summer 2011.
