I've always wondered why the band has never managed to replicate the sound of this album. The guitars and drums have a sound that only Definitely Maybe has. Some Might Say on Live By The Sea has a DM-friendly sound, but on WTSMG it has a different sound, which fits the second album. I wonder: Did they deliberately decide never to replicate that sound again or did they no longer succeed? I hope Liam eventually makes a punk album that sounds as much like DM as possible.

Noel said it in that guitar interview that they didn't know what they were doing with their amps, so it wasn't their choice to make it sound that way. He also said that they'd found it difficult to recreate that sound live as well in the latter years.

I'm actually glad that they didn't make another Definitely Maybe for their second album.

I'm seeing that Liam is trying to replicate that sound live and for a good percentage he's succeeding. But I would like him to do it on albums too and not just in concerts.

I'm actually glad that they didn't make another Definitely Maybe for their second album. I agree. They pushed things forward with Morning Glory and that's why that album was so succesfful where as Be Here Now flopped by comparison - they didn't do anything new with it - just made bloated Morning Glory songs then slapped loads of guitars on it to make it a bigger Definitely Maybe. But the album doesn't work because it lacks strong riffs and punk energy of DM.

Definitely Maybe is a great dubet album but for a second album they needed to change their sound. As for Be Here Now, they could never have matched their first two albums and the songs are just far too long when they didn't need to be.

It would be great if they did another punk rawer album in vein of DM, it didn't happen maybe because Noel started to write more ballads and mid-tempo songs, he didn't plan to write more poppier songs of course it all came to him naturally.
Headshrinker perhaps the only song from the MG era that sounds like something from DM.

Noel at that point was moving into a far more melodic direction that wouldn't fit the punk atmosphere. The songs were becoming more layered, symphonic and eclectic in a way that simply would never work within the first era sound.

Listen Up is actually the song that made me an Oasis fan. I had DM for months, and liked it, but then when I spun that CD Single and heard Listen Up, I knew this was life-changing music.
