I really like Stephen Thomas Erlewine. But it still annoys me that the AllMusic rating of Be Here Now was changed from 4,5/5 to 3,5/5 – Without the text of his positive review being changed...

"greying meat-and-two-veg guitar pop" "unambitious and generic" The Guardian review makes me believe that the album is actually a 4 or 5/5!

Why do you guys find Pitchfork's opinion so important? A few exceptions aside (their nostalgia review of the Television Personalities' first LP for example) I always find myself disagreeing with them.
Maybe it's good for US business to have a good Pitchfork rating though

Maybe it's good for US business to have a good Pitchfork rating though Nobody finds their opinion “important”. They’ve just had a long-standing negative view of Oasis and The Gallaghers, so it is always interesting to see what they say out of morbid curiosity.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine has been reviewing albums for Pitchfork for a couple of years now, I think. He reviewed the latest Liam album for instance. He gave Council Skies 9/10 in AllMusic so if he gets the review, probably it will be good. In almost any other case... well, you know

I don't think anyone in the US really give a fuck about Pitchfork these days. If there's any review that's big these days it's probably Anthony Fantano, but honestly is anyone who's on the fence about buying a Noel Gallagher record in 2023 giving a shit what anyone else thinks? I certainly dont.

I certainly dont. Pitchfork use to be awesome in the late 90s and early 00s but since selling out to corporate buyers, it’s a shell of its past power. It’s just a brand name now. They’ve become Rolling Stone. Meaningless.

Jesus - this is something else. How on earth can you be employed to review an album, by an artist who you clearly dislike? In a review of Noel's new album, he manages to have a pop at Noel, Liam, Matt Healy and even a little dig at Bonehead. The review is not even worth reading, cos it's being assessed from a solely negative space

According to Metacritic Council Skies is currently the highest rated solo album by Noel with an average of 81, which is quite good for the Gallaghers' standards. It's still early though, it is based on 11 reviews, Who Built the Moon (avg. 76) is based on 20. Let's see!

I haven't gone past the first two paragraphs. What a pretentious prick, it's clear that he's incredibly biased even by reading the summary only.

I've just taken 2 minutes to stalk the author a bit on twitter, according to his followers, "music journalism" is just shitting on everyone in the most obnoxious way. If that's true, LG and NG should become music journalists, they'd be great at it
