The only reason Americans believe soccer is boring, is because their first exposure is that of the MLS…. #LIVCHE

Growing up as an adolescent, we all would call Cristiano Ronaldo the ‘fake Ronaldo’ referring to the original Ronaldo of Brazil…. lol.

And yet another horrible day for football Money talks, no matter what you do or did beforehand. Disgusting that some Newcastle fans are celebrating like they won something. Yes Ashley is bad but you are opening your team to a murderer and anti LGBTQI+ person. One step foward and a thousand back.

Hard to believe that they actually let state funds invest in football clubs.
It's one thing people like Mansour and Abramovich, but when it's actually, literally the state investment fund like PSG, it's just baffling that there's no rule against it. Fan-ownership is the only cure for football, just like worker co-operatives are the only cure to capitalism.

Abramovich and Mansour have benefited largely with capital from the state, and their ties are inextricably linked - sportswashing claims being very common with that scum lot too. It's a sad state of affairs. Football for the people by the people doesn't exist anymore, so sad that cultural capital has been exploited and something that was a societal benefit has become a political tool hijacked by the most unsavoury people on earth. The Premier League is just a branding exercise now. No community ties at all, all awash with money and clubs with no identity and roots at all now.

Only one club worth supporting and it’s Borussia Dortmund The Bundesliga clubs get it right. Strong set of identity and principles attached with the clubs. Serie A somewhat similar although less 'fan inclined' but many clubs still owned by local businessmen such is the tradition. Either way, there's still a strong identity attached to these clubs in the way the Premier League doesn't have. In fairness, you can go lower down the Premier League and find proud traditions but the razz matazz associated with the big clubs is so contrived.

I feel like there's an extra level of absurdity when it's the literal state fund itself buying the club, though. Obviously Mansour and Abramovitch are connected to the state and their money is far from "clean", but their wealth is ~£30b. Ridiculous, obviously, but this is the actual state fund of Saudi Arabia. That wealth is nearer £300b. Same with PSG. It's just so patently surreal that I'm almost shocked it's happened. But I shouldn't be, this is capitalism, after all. Democratic ownership has to be the law, or things will always slip to this point.

‘Man of the Match’ is sexist. The Premier League should change that inherent and traditional football label to ‘Player of the Match.’ 🙄
