Are there mandatory vaccines? I dunno I’ve always got what I’ve had to get and never quibbled. Yes there are some vaccines that are compulsory when you are a kid where i live, dont know about the UK. There's like a few to prevent child diseases, but i believe the Government dont do anything if you dont get vaccinated. But kids can be refused in schools, field trips and stuff. In the end, not imposing such a vaccine for such a worldwide problem is problematic to me. BUT, if i was in power, i wouldn't impose it. Obviously. I would want my reelection. But will we get out of this is those people dont get vaccinated ? That's the real issue here, Freedom or whatever aside.

Well, well, well, I can't believe that Noel has actually had the vaccine after all his stupid previous comments about Covid. Even if he had to be told by a doctor to get it at least he has.

I still don’t know about those suggesting anything Noel and Liam say on this is meaningless and has no effect at all. Would a politician enjoy getting either of their endorsements during or after an election? Could there even be, say, I don’t know, an example of this …? Sure, Oasis were at peak celebrity then, but even if their cultural dominance has faded, the cross-generational reach of their combined fans is even greater now. And there's no doubt that they remain heroes of a sort to some. Here in Los Angeles, LeBron James recently sparked massive, massive controversy simply by refusing to answer if he did or did not have the vaccine. Granted, James takes many bold stances, which the Gallaghers do not, so people were surprised (and some very upset at a missed opportunity.). But though there were many different arguments about privacy vs. influence, one thing I never saw is anyone intimating that nobody cares what he says. He’s an idol, It’s in the definition. (And when you're trying to get your city to a highly protective 80% vaccinated so life can resume as it was without limits, even a very local effect is extremely important, not small.) It's a plus that Noel said he did it, regardless of whatever ironic tale he spins about his reasons. (And one reason no one has mentioned is that it’s simply going to make his life as a recording artist a hell of a lot easier for the next few years—unless he’s 100% not touring.)

Noel is right though. It is up the each individual whether or not to get he vaccine. I dont know…when its about public health. Hell wordwide health, shouldnt it be compulsory ? Many other vaccines are where i live when you are a kid. People werent worried about that before and many deadly diseases disapeared thanx to that. Sometimes you gotta be a team player. People forgot that the way we live now is thanx to group effort in the past. Maybe its time to give a bit. In the end people who refuse to get the vaccine will benefit from the ones that did. To me thats a bit selffish. It should not be compulsory to do anything when it comes to putting something in your body. Now I agree with what you say - you should get it for those reasons you list. But should and compulsory are not the same. I am getting my vaccine next week, I've never had any doubts, but it's a basic freedom to choose.

But should and compulsory are not the same. Yeah of course, but freedom of choice when it comes to worldwide public health is tricky. When it affects other people, the whole world, when the earth population is at risk ? We are not talking other diseases that you can catch knowingly, by doing say, unprotected sex stuff. This one, you can easily catch it going to the store, even if you respect all the safety measures, if someone sneezes on you or talks to you too close. and then what ? You get sick or die just because someone refused to get vaccinated... I seriously don't know what to think about this matter. But like i said, in some countries many vaccines are compulsory, and no one cares. It's become like taking regular pain pills. And health has gotten better because those vaccines were imposed on people. Or people who refuses to get vaccinated should get locked for lifetime in their house or something

I'm happy to choose to do it. Others aren't. I can think they're selfish etc and all you can really do though is say well if you don't do it, you can't do certain things.

Noel talking bollocks about celebrities and music is fine, but when it comes to public safety regarding masks and getting the vaccine, he really needs to shut the fuck up.

Noel talking bollocks about celebrities and music is fine, but when it comes to public safety regarding masks and getting the vaccine, he really needs to shut the f uck up. He's got the vaccine and any time he's been pictured in a public place he's been wearing a mask. People should be allowed to make up their own minds. People screaming and shouting at others for the last fucking year and a half has been half of the problem. His point is, he won't go and tell people to get the vaccine, because he doesn't believe that's the right thing to do - people should be allowed a choice. Now, I think that choice should be to get vaccinated, but I'm not going to force anyone to do it. It's a basic freedom and we should stop just saying we're happy for those to be taken away.

How fucking oblivious can one be saying "it's my choice, it's on me bla bla bla"... when your choice can make someone badly sick, give them long term or permanent sequelae and even kill them, then it's not your choice, it's the world's. So you take the fucking vaccine, you thank the fact that science is advanced enough to make the vaccine in the first place and you shut the fuck up about it. Period... that's not virtue signaling, that's just not being a fucking deadly prick.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills over here… this kind of “enlightened centrism” pisses me right off; this is a global pandemic that killed nearly four million people, a highly infectious and dangerous disease that over 174 million people contracted. And Noel is influential enough to inspire people to not wear a mask or not get vaccinated. His words hold more power than doctors and scientists to some, unfortunately. So it’s not just a matter of having differing opinions or “making up your own mind,” whatever that means—him talking absolute shite about this can get people sick… or worse. It’s not just irresponsible; it’s dangerous. Just as doctors and scientists are unqualified to publicly discuss Noel’s music, Noel is wholly unqualified to talk about COVID and safety protocols in a worldwide pandemic. Writing “Live Forever” doesn’t beat eight years of medical school. It’s this kind of anti-intellectual idiocy that will continue to give us the likes of Boris, Trump, and Bolsonaro.

Could have used you over in the Liam forum when he was also weighing in on the vaccine ... Liam is almost certainly far more influential with young people than Noel (given his fanbase) yet I was told nothing he said could possibly make any difference. The irony is that if everyone was vaccinated, both brothers would already be back in the business they miss so much with no worries. That part is so absurdly simple.

I think that people who don't want to have the vaccine and won't wear a face mask are completely selfish. The fact is you don't mess with this virus and we all know how dangerous it is. I wish people like Noel and Liam come to that (even though Liam hasn't been against face masks) would keep their stupid comments to themselves.

Let me say this again since you’re referring to the discussion you and I had — Liam didn’t say anything about the efficacy of vaccinations in that tweet and it is not the responsibility of a musician to give medical advice to the public. Furthermore, the extraordinarily minuscule amount of people legitimately reading Liam/Noel interviews or tweets for insight on a virus are mentally ill and incapable of making decisions related to the safety of society. There are 36,000 total members on this forum and we’re probably the biggest Oasis fans on the planet; how many people have you seen on here saying they were influenced by Liam/Noel in regard to getting vaccinated or wearing a mask (which even Dr. Fauci privately admitted in his emails had little to no impact on keeping people safe)? If you’re genuinely that concerned about their opinions on important societal issues, please start advocating for them to discuss all of the pressing inherent dangers to humanity as well.

All Noel's said is some comments on the Matt Morgan podcast but at any stage he's been photo'd out and about in places where you need to wear a mask, he is wearing a mask, and now he's had the vaccine. I guess Liam's had his vaccine too. He might not agree with the rules - a lot don't - but he clearly follows them.

Writing “Live Forever” doesn’t beat eight years of medical school. It’s this kind of anti-intellectual idiocy that will continue to give us the likes of Boris, Trump, and Bolsonaro. But all he's said is a few off-the-cuff remarks. If he's been pictured in any indoor places lately, he's been wearing a mask. He's got the vaccine, he's not Ian Browning it on Twitter. I don't see what you're getting mad about? He clearly doesn't agree with the rules and in all honesty some of the logic is fucking stupid anyway but like the vast majority of us he's clearly following them. Ultimately, unless you're advocating pinning people to a table and injecting them, then you can't force people to have it. You have to give them a choice. People have that right. But, the issues around not choosing it should be made clear - and they are being made clear, which is why here in the UK the uptake has been so high, and in general it's not stupid anti-vaxers that have been the issue here, but it's been getting the vaccine uptake to grow in ethnic and religous minorities which has been a major problem. Everyone has a personal choice, all you can do is try and convince any that have doubts that those doubts are unfounded. Fortunately most people don't and will go along with it. I think it will be harder to sell boosters to people but hey, let's cross that bridge when we come to it. You missed out Macron there, btw, who only a few months ago insisted he had listened to so many experts, that he was now himself more of an expert than all the experts.

He's a big boy and can be responsible for his words. That's all. He has a considerable public profile (especially in England but also globally in countries with even bigger problems) and is an idol. Those are not really controversial facts. Your math is not correct. There are not 36,000 people posting on this forum. There are really maybe about 50 people who post here regularly, on say a daily or weekly basis as of June of 2021. It is mostly the same people every day, with slight shifts when it is mostly Noel or mostly Liam news. This has been a fairly pro-vaccination board over all and is not really a stan board (not sure if it ever was, doesn't seem to have been for many years at least), so I wouldn't expect the people who actually post here to be swayed by any Gallagher. But, as I mentioned in the other thread, I personally saw multiple people on twitter who said they wanted Liam's opinion and it mattered to them. These are young people who maybe don't read a lot or watch the news. They are not sure what to think and they look up to Liam. They want to be cool like him, and they're unsure if it's cool to get vaccinated. I don't know why it bothers you so much that their words might matter. I do not advocate for them to speak on anything, including on Covid-19 or vaccinations. They are free to speak on whatever they want and I am free to weigh in on what they say. That's how being a public figure works. If they want to speak out about climate change, or the West Bank or gun violence or nuclear proliferation or football leagues or whatever, they should do so. They certainly don't have to do so. But if they do speak about it, then their words carry weight.

My sister is pregnant and won't take her vaccine yet, even though they've said it would be safe she wants to wait until the baby is born (next month). Does that make her selfish? So much to unpack here. First I'm not painting people who have doubts as evil and certainly never said they wanted people to die. That's just ridiculous. Second, having concerns about what is in a vaccine is legitimate and even good. Again, I never said the opposite. Now, after raising said concerns and being explained over and over and over how it works, that most vaccine are harmless, that adverse effects are extremely rare and how they were able to test the vaccine properly and get it out quickly, then even if you're still worried, you should get the vaccine. That being said, the issue here is this: First, it's not a question of personal choice, it's a question of public health. When one's personal choice affects others especially in a way that could leave permanent damage or lead to death, then it's no longer a personal choice. That's true for wearing a mask as well, which we've known for months was about protecting others, not the one wearing it. He talks about that in this interview saying that if everyone wears a mask he's protected and they're protected so he doesn't have to wear one. Which brings me to my second point. We should be free to decide what goes in our bodies until it becomes a question of public health and safety. The reason why we get the vaccine is to protect those who can't, like your sister. She has a legitimate reason to not get the vaccine as she's worried it could affect the baby. Fair enough. We can think of people with medical issues and so on. That's who we, as a society, need to protect. We get the vaccine because we need to protect ourselves and those who can't get the vaccine. Then, there's the slippery slope. If everyone thinks "Well I don't want it so I'm not getting it" what will happen? Or, if I go a bit less dramatic, say 50% of people in England don't get vaccinated ever because of the so-called personal choice? Then people keep getting sick and dying and the restrictions remain... Also, in certain cases, it should be mandatory. For instance, if you have a man suffering from psychosis who becomes a threat, then we would expect his antipsychotics to be mandatory to protect others. This is the same thing, it's just less obvious because we can't see the virus. But we need to make sure everything is done to protect society. Lastly, he's a rock star with influence. So what he says influences others. As such, he has a responsability to not influence people the wrong way. If he doesn't want the vaccine, then he needs to shut the fuck up about it and keep it for himself. In 1975, if Robert Plant didn't want a vaccine, we wouldn't have known. That's how it should be today. If you want to be a positive influence, go right ahead! Otherwise, shut it. It's not a question of opinion here. We're talking about public health and safety.

The fact of the matter is that Noel Gallagher is a famous rock star. And, for better or for worse, what he says matters to a lot of people. His words can influence people to listen to a new band, vote for a particular candidate or political party, or, you know, not listen to safety measures during a worldwide pandemic the likes of which we haven't seen in 102 years. I'm not telling him to shut up and play, and I won't be binning his records. But what he's saying has real life consequences, and fans should call him out on it. (It's also counterintuitive, because the quicker people maintain a social distance, wear masks, and get vaccinated, the quicker concerts can come back. But I digress.)

I agree there on the bit in bold. But worth noting that the quote about the mask isn't from the latest interview. It's from last summer/autumn when he was on Matt Morgan's podcast. Every time he's been out and about lately he's been pictured in a mask. He can moan all he likes but he clearly wears one when he's supposed to. Well, the reason we get the vaccine is to protect ourselves as well. There's this thing that's been missed here. It doesn't actually stop transmission. What it does stop is serious illness and therefore death, in the vast majority of cases. It's not like a mask, which is more for protecting others than protecting yourself. The vaccine is about everybody protecting themselves and, in time, building up a herd immunity strategy that way. Me getting the vaccine doesn't make my sister safer because I could still transmit COVID even with the vaccine. So no, the vaccine is about looking out for yourself, first and foremost, and if everyone does that, it helps everyone out too. In certain jobs, I fully agree. If you are a medical professional or someone dealing with a public service then it should probably be mandatory. It's a choice to take a job like that at the end of the day so you are still having that 'freedom' (for lack of a better term) to do something; you just know that it comes withe the territory. I think Noel's just in his 'old man shouts at cloud' stage but he's not said people shouldn't get the vaccine, he just said he won't scream at people for not doing. Maybe that's as bad, I don't know, but it's similar to my thought on the whole situation. I don't like the masks either, but we all do it, and as I've said, any time NG has been pictured lately (when he's been in public indoors) he's been wearing a mask.
