That story about the real Valerie was just fuckin brilliant I'd never heard that before and it confirms the original is way superior to the mark Ronson monstrosity

I didn't watch it because I knew that he wasn't performing so I didn't bother. Anyway, I started watching something else and got into that on More4.

I love Noel but it’s weird how Noel lies just to try and make things look better. He’s come out with that John Lennon death story (“I was listening to city on the radio at the time”) a couple of times over the years and they didn’t even have a game that day

What a cheap gimmick that was. Basically his production motto is 'lets add trumpets'. Somehow made him a hot producer.

I listen to his podcasts with Matt and he does lie about the weirdest of things or says he doesn't know / doesn't remember although he clearly does - and for no apparent reason as well! Getting memories mixed up from 40 years ago is one thing, lying about potentially breaking covid restrictions as well - I get that but there are so many instances on the podcasts where it's just a really simple question and yet he chooses to lie. I understand he's a very private and guarded person and that's fair enough but pretending not to know your kids' ages (just a random example but there are loads, most of which escape me right now) just doesn't seem to make any sense to me?!

There’s a theory that there are two different kinds of ways that people deal with memories and stories. One is narrative and the other is episodic. If you’re a narrative person you feel the need to create one big meaningful story out of your life and you see all events as interconnected and yourself as constantly changing and improving. If you’re an episodic person you don’t feel any need to create a story and you go from event to event without attempting to make the past make sense and you see yourself as generally unchanging yet always having new experiences. One isn't necessarily any better than the other, but narrative people tend to “revise” or make shit up in order to make a cooler story. But there’s also a strong possibility that Noel just likes having one over on people …

Something so big like that you'd remember clearly. Very very rarely are their broadcasts mid-football games to breaking news. I think the only one I can remember was when the Queen Mother died.

It’s hardly a big deal. He obviously just heard the Beatles and liked them. It’s not really a great story so he’s embellished it a bit. Maybe he was listening to something else and it was interrupted by John Lennon’s death. It would have been big news at the time so he probably couldn’t have escaped it if he was listening to the radio at all.
It’s definitely not worth getting worked up over.

I think it's the 2nd Oasis - Paolo Hewitt book, Forever the People (which is a bit more critical of Noel than his previous rah-rah, "they're so great" writing), Hewitt points out this about Noel. He'd pop out to buy a pint of milk and cigarettes and would come and hold court with a tall tale about the 'adventure' he'd just had running this banal errand. And this was 22 years ago when every one in pop culture / newspapers were hanging on his every word.
