Call me crazy but I’d still have liked a studio version of this. The one he did release isn’t even the best live version I’ve heard. He’s done it better. I know the one released was the “first” attempt but it sounds like he’s 10 feet from the mic and in a bathroom. Well based on what he said during the interview he seems to continually consider recording this one for a studio release and then he stops himself short of doing it. Maybe one day you will get your wish of a studio version. He seems to occasionally consider doing it. On a separate note, did you like all those aahs reminiscent of If I Had a Gun towards the end of the new single? The first time I heard it all I could think of was your sarcastic comment asking for more aahs on IIHAG if it ended up making the compilation. I'll have to check out this interview. I know I'm probably in the minority on this subject. I totally forgot I made this joke. Good memory. I don't mind it on the new single I just never liked it on IIHAG because it seemed in place of lyrics or something.

Well yeah obviously, it's a crime against music to not do a studio version of this song. Done right, it could be sent to mars with Elon Musk for Aliens to understand that humans can be good too. It's a class song that deserves better than just the RTE recording, no matter how good it is. The vocals could be kept and brushed but instruments need a better sound. Imagine Imagine as just a live take. Every great song needs a studio recording. It's a like an unfinished Mona Lisa. Bob Dylan says no. Noel is no bob Dylan. His music is always better on record, when he's the singer. I enjoy going to gigs and all, but he doesn't have that quality to leave just a live recording. Some are quality, don't get me wrong. The acoustic tour he did with Gem, for instance. But yeah, i'm glad i have that studio version of Half the World Away, or that studio version of Talk Tonight, or that studio version of Take me Away... etc Most of them are still very rough, but at least they got a proper recording, and don't have that fat radio sound.

I know what you mean. It just feels like words should be there.

I know what you mean. It just feels like words should be there. I'll go honest, this is one of my favourite parts of the song. Just some simple melody. IIHAG is just a love song in it's purest form really. Sometimes love leaves you speechless, and this just reflects that. Sorry for getting all smushy... Although in STC the wah-wah is actually meant to be a trumpet but Noel didn't have access to one recording the demos so made the sound with his mouth. It eventually made the cut. I still don't really like this song, definitely should have been a B-Side IMO. LTLSALOM, (IWLIADIM)RM or ASGOG would have been much better closers. Probably my biggest gripe with it though is the twinkly production. I'm not sure what the high pitched instrument is at the beginning, but would have preferred it to be guitar led. Anyway, back to Noel on the late late show... Absolutely class. Perhaps not his best vocal, but nothing to shake a stick at. The song's too good not to share.
