I definitely prefer the album version on the whole, but there are elements of the acoustic that I prefer. For one thing, I think it's gone some way in proving me right that there was always a gorgeous melody to those verses that doesn't over-state itself amongst the dance beats and synth arpeggios of the studio cut. Those floating, heavenly oohh's over the last chorus should DEFINITELY have been prominent, though. Gorgeous stuff. I like the tune, but Lennon2217 is right that it isn't the iconic lead single needed to sustain such a long period of promo. Feels more like a cute intro to the world of Music of the Spheres, hoping for juicier tracks come LP time. If the rumors are true, the next single doesn’t drop until late August/early September along with album announcement. Another 2.5 more months of flogging this tune around. Buckle up. Something tells me if they weren’t Coldplay and didn’t have immense money and prestige behind them, this tune would have faded away by now.

I dread when the bts collaboration comes out. I mean they are like a million members how does Chris songs or is it going to be a full instrumental that BTS will be singing only?

It really, really isn't. It doesn't even feel like a full band song (at least the album version). It feels like something Chris wrote with some producers and writers and then the rest of the band played on (which may actually be how it went, sadly).

They still got another 4-5 months before the album arrives. We are two months into endless plugging of this song. Gonna need something fresh and much different for single 2.

The worst thing about this tune is that I just don't care. There's no vitriolic reaction to it and there's no hint of a great song there either.
It's not to do with the blatant attempt to latch onto the mainstream sounds either, I've said it in a previous post that acts like The Wanted and Dua Lipa do this kind of music so much better and that it works brilliantly when done well.
The simple fact is the song is just really boring and continues in the same vain of A Head Full of Dreams - an album that, for all its mainstream appeal and hype about being very pop and colourful, was largely made up of dull and flimsy songs. A shame, because a song like Orphans from a couple of years ago was great. Great musicianship, great lyrics, great melody - a genuinely great pop song with a lot going on in it.
Coldplay work best when they bring interesting ideas into the mainstream (interesting lyric, interesting riff, interesting rhythm, interesting sound etc), something that's a bit more left field and then worked on to give broad appeal. Which is why Viva La Vida album works well, crafting an art pop sound and decorating it with strong pop melodies. But when they explicitly ape the big chart sounds of the day, that's when they fall apart completely. It's not jumping on the mainstream bandwagon that ruins Coldplay these days, it's simply that they're boring.
I just think this song is evidence that they are becoming a bit more like U2 in the worst sense. Whereas 10 years ago, they could latch onto the mainstream sounds and take the lead with a massive song (e.g. Paradise), these days, Higher Power sounds like something that is trying to catch up with the zeitgeist. It makes me think that maybe the days of Coldplay latching on to these sounds and knocking it out the park time and time again is coming to an end. They ought to think smaller, with something less self-conscious and more exploratory.

Sadly agree with most of the above It's just not that good of a song, and what they've been able to do over and over again was to take over the charts with stuff that was pop enough and anthemic and radio friendly but you could still hear it was born somewhere else, they were commercial without losing their identities This has got a good enough chorus and a decent verse but then it just sounds so disjointed and the bridge makes you feel as it was just written in a rush so they could get into the supposedly catchy chorus It could've been made by anyone else in the top 40 and that's not what Coldplay were about And I wouldn't even say it's the production cause the acoustic version does nothing to me as well, and I've tried The fact that they're pushing it as if it was Yellow is staggering, and it doesn't seem to me it's doing anything to push it into the classic or even just hit stratosphere

Getting real sick of seeing higher power in my uploads on youtube every single week. They clearly really wanted/needed this song to work for some reason. That’s because it came out 6-7 months prior to the album. Who said they needed to start promo this early if it’s gonna take that long? This is not the huge summer anthem they think it is. Don’t get me wrong, it’s getting exposure but it feels like a forced “hit”.

Quite lovely. Shows what I've always said about the track - strong verses, great chorus, weak bridge and middle-eight. The added backing vocals to the last chorus are gorgeous and should've been part of the official tune. Hi!!! We must have met before, on the other forum

Why can't Coldplay write like they used to? I really don't get it. Even though I liked their previous album, it vastly pales in comparison to their best albums. It's almost like they're an entirely different band. I feel like the difference between their peak and where they are is even more vast than Oasis's peak and low.

We took for granted how scaled back the promo was for Everyday Life. This is so in your face. Sorta like Head Full of Dreams but on steroids. Don’t they realize they gotta save some for the actual album press? You do this stuff all the time and you risk backlash.

I love how even coldplay fans on Reddit, Twitter and fan sites are now making fun of the band for the endless promotional work on “Higher Power”. I even saw a meme of the track listing for the new album and it was just 12 different versions of “Higher Power”. That made me chuckle.

Believe it or not, another Higher Power remix drops this week. That’s like 13-14 of them. Enough!!!!!!
Pretty safe to say this is Coldplay’s worst performing lead single chart wise. I know it’s gonna rack up huge streams because it’s on all the right Spotify playlists but it definitely feels like a forced effort. Seen a lot of comments on Coldplay Reddit comparing this era of Coldplay to the No Line On The Horizon era U2 which we spoke about earlier in this thread. It’s a great call.
We were spoiled by the fast and non abrasive promotion of Everyday Life. 3+ months of endless plugging Higher Power is grating.

Can't wait for Coldplay to have the biggest tour of all time then. 🤷♂️ Seriously though no official album announcement at this point is bizarre. A Head Full of Dreams wasn't even this drawn out - Adventure of a Lifetime dropped in October, the album announced right after and then dropped in December. Isn't this supposed to be their next "big" album?

Some of these sound properly mental. And what a mix of sounds! I'm loving the sense of freedom the band has found post-AHFOD. Feels like they're just running into any sound they like, with no care for cohesion or their history or anything. Obviously means we won't be getting any perfect, AROBTTH/VIVA style albums, but I'm here for their era of "let's just fucking have fun with it." It's a spirit that I think Noel found with WBTM, and I hope he continues with it, too. I think half of the sounds in this trailer sound interesting the other half sounds like “oh dear lord……..”. I’m even hearing some space saga Muse in there! Watch the bits I like will turn out to be just 40 second interludes. Id argue that Coldplay (Chris) have been leaning into what they love regardless of genre since about the end of Mylo. That album is a mix of styles that was heavily explored on AHFOD to very very mixed results. Same could he said for Everyday Life. Loads of genres. Some hit some didnt. Ghost Stories is their most recent album that sounds like a collective Unit from A to B. Great production on that LP and I think it still sounds fantastic. Coldplay is/has been at that point of their career when all their albums will be reviewed and received mixed. They can’t pleased all masters (but chris will try!). Hopefully the album has more good then bad. This album could go tits up real fast.

Hopefully the album has more good then bad. This album could go tits up real fast. I've always thought Mylo / AHFOD was a pretty weak comparison that basically ends at "colour" and "pop". AHFOD is sleeker and dancier, more obviously built for the radio sphere and marred with generic ballads and under-written tunes. Mylo is art-pop, blistering and neon and ambitious - much more similar to Viva in every important sense. That's why it'll always go down as their best "pop" album, and most of the reason for the critical and fan re-evaluation it's had in the years since release. Going from the Spheres teasers and tracks we've heard, I think we're basically getting a colourful and optimistic version of Everyday Life. The same spirit of complete artistic freedom, but this time set in the glitter of the stars rather than the mud of the Earth. I'm excited for that. Once again, I think the strengths will be the variety and emotion, and once again the weakness will be a lack of a clear sound and possibly too many Chris-centric songs. But the teasers have me hopeful on that. Some good full-band noises going on. I just meant Mylo has a lot going on genre wise. You got art pop rock songs like Hurts Like Heaven, you got classic alt rock coldplay in songs like Charlie Brown, you got your huge big pop song in Paradise, you got your acoustic diddies like Us Against The World and UFO, you got the first sign of collaboration with Princess of China, something the band would lean into heavily over the next decade plus and you got your darker rockers like Major Minus. All good stuff. It’s a fine line between indulging to great success or becoming a cliche and trying too hard. They tried to make something as good as Mylo with AHFOD but leaned too far one way. Results were generic and weak. Too much of everything. Didn’t play to their strengths.

COVER: POSSIBLE TRACKLIST: 1. 🪐 [0.53] 2. Higher Power [3.33] 3. Humankind [4.26] 4. ✨ [0.54] 5. Let Somebody Go [4.01] 6. ❤️ [3.09] 7. People Of The Pride [3.37] 8. Biutyful [3.12] 9. 🌎 [0.21] 10. My Universe [3.46] 11. ♾ [3.46] 12. Coloratura [10.18] Oh boy, 3 interludes. Sometimes I wish those parts were just included on the song they proceed. For example on Mylo, Hurts Like Heaven begins with a suddenly jump of noise. Flows better with the Mylo intro tacked on. Same goes for A Hopeful Transmission before Dont Let It Break Your Heart.

The last song clip in the trailer interest me the most. I’m assuming it’s the song dropping on Friday. Dig those Disney Fantasia meets Close Encounters strings. Don’t disappoint!
