First off, I want to say I'm really happy with the contributions of Kurstin, Aldred, and Wyatt. However, I think breaking down the way they seem to work, I think I'm most interested in one of those collaborations continuing. I would love igotflair to tell me how far off I am on this, but this is how it seems to me Why Me, Why Not was put together: Greg Kurstin: Played all instruments, no collaborators apart from Wyatt backing vocals. He is a great songwriter who has a vault of songs. As part of the deal, he gave Liam a very good lead single and Liam had to put 3 other tracks on it (two of which were the most 'filler' tracks (Be Still, Meadows). I sense the idea of the song is formed before Liam even sees it, and Liam has freedom to change lyrics. Could be wrong. Simon Aldred: Really Melodic. I feel that unlike having 'ready-to=go tracks', he asks Liam what Liam wants to say, and then he takes the lead and finds the right words and does a great job. He knows how to package it up. It is him taking Liam's idea and turning it into a full song. Could be wrong. Andrew Wyatt I get the sense that he is connected and while he is 'corporate' comes across less corporate and really bonds with Liam. As a result, they have a more organic song writing process. This is where Liam feels most like a 'team' and probably most comfortable. Andrew's good at getting his buddies (Zinner, McMahon, Tighe, and the guys who worked with Mark Ronson) to help out on tracks. Could be wrong. As I said, I'm really happy with all of them, however, I think the Wyatt Collaboration is the one most worth keeping. I'm afraid if album 3 is a nother mix of Kurstin/Aldred/Wyatt it would seem too formulaic. Would love a full Liam/Wyatt (maybe even Zinner) collaboration with a little more experimentation.
