Liam's voice in this performance is very similar (not identical) to the wonderful voice he had in 1996. Obviously he has less power and extension, but in general he looks very much similar. It's great that in some specific moments, today, Liam is still able to sing the old-fashioned way.

His voice sounds like 2019 era and there's nothing wrong with that, infact, it's one of my favourite era's he's had live.
I'll be in the minority here but I actually prefer listening to this over his vocals in 94-96. Love the rough round the edges sound.
That Gone performance is very special, up there with the best stuff he's done in my opinion.

It's a fine performance, but he's still nasally. In 96 he wasn't.

I think there still are more rough nights for him these days than his peak so I can't say I prefer it now than back then but it's so good to have him back to his best. Sometimes when he nails the Oasis tunes it is like going back in time.

His past couple of tours is consistently his best singing since 2002, in my opinion.

in '96 he could just scream into a mic and it would convert into an eargasm. he could never, NEVER do that today.
his singing was so effortlessly in every aspect, it was unreal. nowadays, i would say he's at 60-70% compared to these times. in his bad days, he was at 10%.

Just happy he has confidence back. In the above video he looks scared shitless to push his voice even a little bit, sounds so weak and nasal.
Amazing turn around.

I reckon that's fair (live) - and 60-70% is enough to get the job done beautifully!

Whilst I agree he is sounding excellent these days, performances like the one linked here have considerable auto-tune added in post production.
The significant majority of all music released nowadays has minor alterations made where notes are slightly flat or sharp.
This performance has had the same treatment. I don't doubt he sounded great on the night, but what we get to hear in this video won't be exactly what's come out of the monitors. Can't really compare it to how he sounded back in the day.

Funny thing is how Bonehead now to me looks like coolest guy when watching that video and I don't like Liam's clothes or hair at all.
When I watched those videos like 10 years ago, Bonehead was that creepy looking bald guy and Liam was cool as fuck.

That pageboy haircut on Liam is definitely not a great look. Then again, it's not really a good look for anybody.

2017 Liam is similar to '96 era, 2019 Liam is not. But at least 2019 Liam is not 2002-2014 one and it's pretty listenable

He doesn't sound like 1996, but he sounds like the same person he was in 1996. From 2005 onwards sometimes he sounded like a completely different person. Now he sounds like he's the same Liam, just a bit older.

I'm really sick of hearing people say "OMG Liam sounds just like he did in 199X!!!1!1!" No he doesn't, he sounds like whatever year he's singing in simple as. The only year I'd compare it to would be by saying he sounds like a healthier more powerful 2008.

The only year I'd compare it to would be by saying he sounds like a healthier more powerful 2008. In 2008/09 it was destroyed, the extension was less than the current one, the vocal timbre was very bad and it was very raucous in those days. Unrivaled to the current Liam. Today's Liam is more similar to the 96 Liam, but with a less powerful and more adult voice, especially in the performance at Mtv Unplugged. And I never thought he could go back to that kind of vocal timbre.

Nothing can ever beat his 1997 area, sounding a little more ‘hoarse’, still be able holding the highnotes, but that tour actually killed Liams voice

A powerful melodic scream, but now rougher and grittier. I honestly adore this gig.

Funny. I was listening to Let There Be Love the other day and thought it sounds close to Liam's current voice. So he sounds like 2005 to me, not 1996 It was most likely the song itself that reminded me of Liam's solo stuff. The truth is, he sounds like himself in 2019. You can't just magically make yourself younger, his voice has simply matured and that's ok.

In 2005 it sounded like this. (Terrible) And today, fortunately it is no longer so ruined

If I'm being honest I'm bored to fucking death with this subject so I wasn't arsed to read anything more than the name of the thread. And I don't think I'm going to either.
